I see they do not make them anymore, but every place has them on close out $3<. They look like a high quality crank bait. Anyone use them? and what happend? why did they only last 4 years on the market? Or did I just answer my own question.

I had ok luck with them. Maybe they couldn’t compete with Berkeley’s flicker shad and other new cranks on the market.

I have been given quite a few of them, now kids have been given quite a few of them.

I dont think you are going to miss out on not having any…

The Lindy Shadling came out back in the 80’s. Originally, they were made out of balsa along with the Lindy Baitfish, which was maybe the best balsa stick bait I ever used.

The balsa baits only lasted a few years as Lindy switched to making them out of ABS Plastic instead to reduce production cost.

The ABS plastic Lindy Shadlings were still a fairly good bait for me but the Lindy Baitfish made from ABS plastic was totally worthless.

Overall, I totally agree with Mark above as they are much better comparable baits out there now than the shadling. I won’t miss them.

This bait here is one of those in similar shape & action that I would say is a much, much better bait.

And probably a little easier on the wallet depending on the clients in your boat!
I never had any luck on the shadlings either and gave them to the brother-in-laws to use!

Why? Do they run untrue or just have not put in the time using them to get confident in them. They look like a good looking lure. The reviews on the web are love them or hate them kinda thing.

I don’t think they have any issues with running true. None that I’ve noticed anyway. They just didn’t catch fish well enough for me.

More than likely, its like a lot of lures out there. They work great on some waters and terrible on others.

Before closer this year I had a dream that I caught a 12# walleye on a shadling right over in one of my usual north side river spots that I had in my tackle box for couple years, blue top with white underbelly. Went to the river that night and first cast bam! A tree just hammered it and lost in on 1st cast, last time I’ve touched one, to heartbroken.

I fell for the hype when they were reintroduced, loaded up on’m. Right from the git-go they were junk. Wouldn’t track, spin out, wouldn’t tune, bad hooks,no company response to inquiries, etc. I’d pull them alongside most any other lure and would get zilch where the others were getting bit. I quit even tieing them on, and finally left the box full in the shop. Wasn’t it P.T Barnum that said: “There’s one born every day”? jerr

I know this is an old post but here is the deal. I have won over $2000 fishing the Lindy old style #5 Shandling on 3 different bodies on water in Michigan including, Holloway Reservoir, Houghton Lake and Lake Charlevoix. The big #9 6 inch Shadling and Baitfish I have run on 14 lb mono and braided 20# steel off Vermillion, Ohio and place 5th in another 65 boat tournament. I caught a ton of <strong class=”ido-tag-strong”>walleye and BIG pike on Lake of the Woods, Rainey Lake and Lac Seul with the #5s and #9s too. I buy them up off EBAY every chance I get and have paid up to $15 each for them. I airbrush them to new colors, like clown, wonderbread, Pink Lemonade and use 3D eyes and red treble hooks and epoxy coat them and they ROCK socks off walleye, <strong class=”ido-tag-strong”>Pike and Smallmouth on lakes I fish….Haven’t had a whole lot of success with the #7s only because I run Pre-Rapala Storm Rattle tots with #5 Shadlings and #9 Shadlings and Baitfish , some on lead core. They are a force to be reckoned with in my boat and I will kick the crap out of the Bandits and Reefrunners ALL day long. That BIG #9 BAitfish with dive to 30+ feet along with the #9 Shadling according to Mark Romanack’s Precision Trolling Dive chart data. The smaller #5 Shadling runs about 6-7 feet with 60-70 feet of 14lb XT. Never had to run it out more than 60 feet in 8-10 feet of water. Ted Takasaki, then of Lindy, sent me the last dozen of silver and gold #5s when I went 2nd and had big fish at the Holloway tournament. A nice check there too. $450 for big fish and $800 for 2nd out of 65 boats. The biggest <em class=”ido-tag-em”>pike on Rainey Lake was on a #9 Perch Shadling out 80 feet and was 42 inches long while another Cisco colored #9 shadling claimed 2 Pike at 38 and 39 inches. LMAO…and they all tracked straight right out of the package…I only tuned a couple of the $5s after they caught over 50 walleyes and then I had to re-epoxy and/or re-paint. I’ve never had to tunes a #9.

I have a supply of #5 and #7 Shadlings that I’d sell if the price was right. Let me know and I’ll send you photos if you’re interested.

Enjoyable to read someone caught a walleye on this lure.

I’d have to be in your boat and witness this with my own eyes to believe it. Why? Something about that lure really intrigued me so went all in and bought many. Tried them in every condition and never, ever caught even one fish. Rapala, RR, flickers were consistent catchers but not this lure. Finally had enough & thankfully another lucky angler took them off my hands. His success came pitching them on wing dams.

The good news regarding sun setting a lure? Won’t be long and Lindy will have something new trying to catch our wallet. Hopefully it’ll catch a few walleyes too.

So basically you make a different bait then what Lindy made and sold.

They’ve been good walleye catching cranks for me as well and I wish they still manufactured them. I haven’t used them for a few years since they went out of production and just hung on to what I had (30 #5’s and 36 #7’s in various colors).
Why I’ve hung on to them and not used them I really don’t know. I guess I’m sentimental that way

Are these the same lures that where called River Rockers a few years back? I also have a box of Pradcos version of this lure that I would let go for cheap.

I’d take the parrot and chartreuse looking baits for sure. Very nice.

Color is pretty relative to where one fishes. Glad they work for you.
