I’m planning on purchasing a new rod and reel (casting style) mostly for bottom bouncing but also for casting the shorline fpr pike and eyes. loooking at St.Croix Eyecon 7′ Bounce & Troll and Lews Speed spool SSih or MG speed spool. Pros or cons on this? What else should I be looking at? This combo is at the top of what I can afford to spend. Thanks

I dont think you will be able to cast with that rod very well. Too much flex from what i have seen. A very good bouncer rod tho. Imo

I have the bounce and troll it won’t be a good casting rod. To much flex. Great rod though for what it is designed for.

Maybe the Triumph series. I like the 70MF for bouncing and it should be stiff enough to cast. I have used it frequently vertical jigging and Dabque rigging as well.

Thanks for the suggestion. I’m stopping at the Cabalas in Green Bay Monday and will look at those also.

Well I picked up the rod at Cabalas they matched the sale price for the eyecon($100.00) that Fleet Farm had and knocked $10.00 off of the reel because they only had their display model.. Now to test them out.

You won’t be able to fish anything with the eyecon, other than maybe some big bass style crankbaits. You likely won’t even be able to cast it accurately.

It is absolutely not going to work for casting pike lures nor any walleye cranks.

How comparable are they to the 7 foot Jason Mitchell planer board rods? I mostly want it for dragging bottom bouncers and slow death riggs.

    cranks.

I plan on using it for bottom bouncing 90% of the time. Next year I hope to select a set up better suited to casting shorelines. Can’t afford both this year.
