Can I jump on your rant? Thanks
Dunham’s has gun locks on all of their guns and won’t take them off so you can cycle the gun. I asked the clerk why I would ever buy a gun I couldn’t cycle. On a side note, I once had a woman steal 2 $250 hockey sticks for her kid for Christmas. Anything is possible I guess.

Just ask one of their floor people to help you with that Mike.
May 1, 2014 at 9:42 am #1407678That does not surprise me at all. Gander doesn’t hire by experience, so they could have a bunch of yuppies that have never touched a fishing rod running the fishing dpt.
My good buddy applied at the gander here. During the interview the HR guy asked him what his preference would be . He said he told the guy that he has hunted and fished his entire life and considered himself knowledgeable on those subjects. The guy wanted to stick him in clothing dpt because that is where they needed the help the most.
To go along with that, I once asked a worker if they had any wacky hooks and he took me to the crappie section and said “these are the only hooks we have”. On the way, we walked right past the aisle of senkos/sticks where there were several packs of VMC wacky hooks, and right past the catfish section where there was a large assortment of catfish style circles and Js. Yep, those are the only hooks you have….
Its like the blind trying to teach flying lessons in there.
May 1, 2014 at 9:43 am #1407679To be fair I have noticed more help being offered by associates although I general go in at their least busiest times.
May 1, 2014 at 9:52 am #1407685they’ve been putting those stupid things on rods for years around here. For that reason alone, I refuse to purchase a rod from them or even look at one since there’s no possible way to get the feel of it. I can understand them not wanting someone to walk out with one, but 100% of the time they have somebody at the “kiosk” right at the front doors watching to make sure people aren’t walking out of the store with goods.
nhammInactiveRobbinsdalePosts: 7348May 1, 2014 at 9:53 am #1407687I really enjoyed the associates in the Blaine store, but those days are gone. Most every one now are kids who have no clue and that’s embarrassing. Although I did enjoy a couple times when they had bait, was asking for some fatheads and she looks in the buckets “like which one are those?” Took a couple scoops of shiners to the river that night for cheap. Cashier didn’t obviously have a clue either.
May 1, 2014 at 10:10 am #1407691Those ones there, the 10″ gold ones with the funny looking mouth… those are the crappie minnows. 2 dozen please!

We had a guy from Ido working there. GooseHunter? Goose something. His first name was John anyway.
True story.
Personally I like the part timers there. Basically they’re working for the company discount and are true hunting fishing heads. I think John was a part timer.
May 1, 2014 at 10:17 am #1383845Really, people still shop at GanderMountain? I thought they went out of buisness and became a cross between REI and OldNavy!!!

May 1, 2014 at 10:34 am #1407707When I was visiting in New Ulm a few weeks ago, I was directed to some store I forget the name of… pretty much a gander/target want-to-be… upon arriving I asked the people I was with if there were any actual bait shops around, because my guess was these guys wouldn’t have a clue as to any safe ice conditions or river fishing options. They convinced me to walk in and ask… it was the best experience I’ve had with a store like that. The guy in the fishing section flat out said, “I have no clue, go to Napa and talk to this guy, I don’t fish.” Got my bait, questions answered, a quart of oil and new windshield wipers, gotta love small towns!

Karma did me good then, it was some time ago but I think I limited out on eyes. Life doesn’t reward nice guys, its why man created religion so we can feel guilty about taking a cheap scoop of corporate minnows

they are probably busy on their sailboats….
May 1, 2014 at 12:31 pm #1407757Now that I know they are about to get dozed over by Cabelas I feel sorry for them.
May 1, 2014 at 2:23 pm #1407788lots of people who would never set foot in one, sure know alot about em….. (didn’t Gander just partner up with the Grand Casino on some promo ?)

No but I heard Dodge was the sponsored vehicle for this years netting. Something about only Dodge’s are strong enough to tow that many pounds of walleye.
DTdeertrackerPosts: 9249May 1, 2014 at 6:14 pm #1407817Actually, I was doing it to Casin…. I mean Cabelas….I am just tired of the constant GM bashing pile on, about every 2 months on here…. just do a search on old posts, always the same suspects. Here is a hint… STAY OUT !!!! Then you will have nothing to complain about. People must not look left when walking into Casin… Cabelas and see all the CLOTHES… take a walk upstairs… god forbid, it’s full of camping, home decorating and canoe stuff (you can even get a $8 bar of chocolate too) GM will go the way of the small hardware stores someday too… then I suppose it will be better with less choices
(some of these know nothing people working at GM, would be better off on welfare I guess)
deertrackerPosts: 9249May 1, 2014 at 6:25 pm #1407820You guys are lucky that you at least have GM as an option to try. Slim outdoor store pickins in my area. A couple weeks ago I drove to the cities to find .380 ammo. Guess where I found it?

May 2, 2014 at 5:52 am #1407881I agree with crap on fishing rods, not being able to feel the action…Only gander i go to is in Mankato. There’s 1 guy in fishing that i BS with for 50minutes of an hour trip. Then i grab my few things and head out of the store. Haven’t had any considerable problems at gander…In kato.

So what. If it doesn’t interest you then move along. Last I saw this wasn’t the Big G website and we don’t have to limit our discussions to topics of YOUR choice.
