Have an older (at least 10yrs old) eagle fish finder that came with my boat, curious to if anyone has experience with how well they shoot through aluminum hulls? Garmin CS said they will not work properly, and I just need it for depth purposes, and CS said it might or might not just for that. Would rather not have to install an external bracket for the bow, no bow trolling motor, just will be used for an aid for the guy up front. Any issues with interference with the HB 597 in back?

Will not work. Vexilar makes a transducer that will though and I’ll also bet they have a cable for it that will fit your Eagle graph. Give them a call.

May work just fine for finding bottom. You can test it out. Put about a ½ to one inch of water in the hull. Lay the transducer in the water. You should mark bottom. Test out several depths. Id’ expect a weak return on water getting deeper than 30-35 foot. If that works, just silicone glue it to the same area you tested.

We used our ice ducers in the bottom of canoes for years with the water method. Again, you will mark bottom, but don’t expect to see fish real well through aluminum.

Well it was just an idea. Don’t want to drop more money, just thought it would be nice for other guy if it would work. A lot of mixed reviews online, some guys have no issues, some do, most others just opinions. Considering its older that doesn’t help, but just wanted it for depth anyways, I remember fishing with my father growing up always looking back and forth to see what was going on, nice to have a little advance on where the bottom is. If I have some free time this summer might just throw it on anyways to see what happens out of curiosity.
