I’ve had an I-pilot the last 3 or so years and have enjoyed it. The one gripe I’ve had is the spot lock has been marginal most times. I’m really hoping the xi5 lives up to the hype with the dual gps holding location better.

I know the terrova Ipilot combo is tough to beat, I’ll give a review in a month or so when the new boat comes in.

Will be interesting to see the reviews at the end of the season. As soon as they redesign the remote to have a display and a foot pedal with left to right and not just front to back I will be getting one to try!

Where did you find the best price?

Let us know how the install goes. Do they make a mount similar to the competitor?

Thanks and I look forward to your review.

AnchorExpress.com had it for $1339.99 plus there’s a $100 rebate. I’m not sure on the bracket yet, although have read that there is one. My new boat doesn’t come in until end of may/early june, so figured I’d have time to find that.

The lack of display was one thing I was worried about, but the HDS integration is supposed to be out this month which is supposed to put everything right on your HDS Gen2 or above units. I had an ipilot and thought I might miss the GPS read outs on the unit, but the thought of better anchor lock is the biggest draw for me.

They also claim that batteries last longer due to more efficency and less amp draw. I can’t confirm this, but hope it’s correct as well.

I mounted the XI5 onto the bow of the 1790T and Motorguide has a quick release plate that is somewhat similar to MinnKota. Basically it serves the same purpose of quick release. Motorguide doesn’t have a slide plate yet like MinnKota.

We used mine for the first time this weekend. Thus far, a thumbs up for the spot – lock feature ! A much tighter hold & smoother re- position to the spot. The jog feature was also used and so far, really a nice feature. The new features appear to be as advertised thus far!

I’m really torn. I’m upgrading to a 36V this month and might have to go motorguide. I never really use the record-a-track on my terrova. I think I would prefer the heel-toe footpedal on the Xi5. Tough call.

I do need to notify though that anchorexpress.com is backordered on the 80lb model until the 2nd week of May. If you’re in a bigger hurry, you should probably call and ask availability on the particular model you’re looking for.
