Does anyone know much about okuma magda trolling reels or use them much? I hear quite a bit about them and see that they are a little cheaper and was wondering if the quality is there. Thanks

I have a magna 20 and a Magna 20D. So far, plenty o’ fish on both and no problems. Big fish, little fish……. seems to handle them both quite well..

I have big magdas for musky trolling. I’m not casting and retrieving, so they don’t worry me much. They actually seem pretty decent, but I do check them a lot because I know they’re cheap. The handles are flimsy and bend if you torque on them too much, but they get the job done. Also, the drags need to be checked somewhat regulary because they tend to loosen or tighten, but trollers check the drag all the time, anyway.

I think they’re a great value. If you find a good deal on them in walleye size, post it here because I’m interested in a pair of smaller line-counter setups.

i picked mine up cheap at fleet farm a couple months ago. the major complaint is that the drag keeps loosening up. but other than that the reel seems to be what one could expect from a 25 dollar trolling reel.

I have to admit, my drag settings loosen too but I check that everytime I let the line out anyway. I often mess with the drag setting when fighting a bigger fish so I check it anyway. It didn’t seem like an inconvenience to me because I do this with other reels too. But now that I’m thinking about it, it does seem that I adjust these more than any other reel. Even so, I got mine on Ebay for VERY CHEAP so knowing everything else has been fine, I’m still very happy with them. My Daiwa’s still get a nod for better quality though. I’m extremely happy with those!
