My F115 is maybe six years old, plus I have a new to me (bought used) T9 that I want to replace the water impellers on just to make sure they are right. I’ve done this on a old Mercury years ago… and with a little care will get through it.

Question is, I’m going to order parts (no dealer near me), should I get that housing the impeller runs inside at the same time? From a parts diagram, the two o’ rings above it? Anything else? Was hoping there was a kit with it all, but I don’t see one.

I would check again on the kit. Almost always the have the impeller only or a kit. There is a post on here recently with a few links to various online parts that many have used. I boats has been good to me. On my Yamaha, I found keeping it in neutral makes it easier to aline the spline

Thanks guys…. will go looking for the kit then for sure.

That Seirra Kit doesn’t seem to be a Yamaha original parts kit – I have a ton of credit on Amazon, but am hoping to stay with original parts on these, unless someone has used these and found them to be the same quality.

Will re-do my search as suggested.

I would have no issues using the Sierra kit. Dealers use their stuff all the time.

What gripes me is dealers that sell sierra parts for the same as OEM Parts ,I’ll buy OEM mercury for water pump parts after 1 bad set,I’ve had good luck with Mallery parts tho. Iboats has been a good parts source!

lot of times after market items are better then the originals, don’t know in this case but buy the whole kit, the impeller housings do wear but not as fast as the impellers themselves. Buying the whole kit makes sure it pumps a positive flow.

I took my 20 hp Yamaha 4 stroke in to replace the impeller. The mechanic said that replacing the housing is mandatory on Yamaha and he’s a reputable guy, not the type looking for an extra buck. Sure there are Yammy owners who beg to differ on that but he sees a lot more of them than I do and it wasn’t that much extra for peace of mind. It’s not that much fun being on a remote Canadian lake and having trouble. Been there done that.

The first time a replaced the impellor on my T-8 I ordered parts from a dealer. The second time I bought parts from the local NAPA store. The price was much less and were at the local warehouse so delivery was next day.The NAPA parts were re-packaged OEM.When the motor continued to overheat,NAPA supplied the T-stat that the certified Yamaha tech said didn’t exist in my motor.

The first time you do it, I’d buy the complete kit with the impeller, housing, and all the seals. Simply because you don’t know if it’s ever been done before AND you don’t know what it’s going to look like once you get it apart.

I’ve seen the inside of the pump housing where the vanes of the impeller run against the metal can get really scarred if debris gets into the pump.

Also, the seals for both the shaft and the pump seal can go bad over time, so it would be good to replace them this first time so you know everything is good, not just the impeller.

After that, there is no compelling reason to replace the whole pump unit every time.

I’ve had good luck with both OEM and aftermarket parts kits. I have had no experience that makes me say avoid aftermarket and as others have pointed out, shops use them all the time.
