It seems there are a few Walleye hair jigs(buck tail)we all seem to use most often. Here are a few examples I use most often… black/black,black/kelly green,black/yellow,white/white red core.

One of my favorites last fall last year soon became a yellow char/green with a orange throat jig with a body that contained a flame orange center with kelly green top and a yellow bottom. I am also thinking this will be a great color this spring once the water temps rise a little.

What out of the ordinary color hair jig did you have success with in the past walleye season ?

I caught a couple fish on a natural/orange bucktail tipped with a bubblegum ringworm. Talk about out of the ordinary! I put it on as a joke, we were around a ton of sheep and I said “this sure does look like a sheep rig” and caught 2 walleyes on it

I made some Kelly green/ bright red bucktails many years ago that were great guns on the walleyes at the dam and all the way down to the downtown stretch of water. I never tied any more up when the first batch was gone.

Sometimes the water gets beat to death with colors that become common. I have no idea if fish get conditioned to color, but it seems when something off the wall falls in the water, the fish find favor with it and hit. Who knows….

Kevin, never under estimate the catching power of buck and rubber

Tho I have never used ringworms, I have used the mini paddle tails on bucktail jigs alot and absolutely LOVE that combo for walleyes. A 1/8 or 3/16 oz bucktail jig with a mini paddle tail works great even when fishing from shore.

Right on! But when’s the last time you saw a brown, orange, and bold pink baitfish in the water? That’s not exactly an ordinary color combination!
