Looking into purchasing a few eyecons this year. Any input from users would be much appreciated. thinking a couple jig n rig rods and one rip jig. Open to hear some opinions.
I had the jig n rig 6’6ML for 3 months. 3 months in I set the hook on a 12″ walleye and it broke at the 3rd guide. St. croix was good about it, the fella in charge of their service dept said they would cover it (cost me $10 to get it to them, then $20 for them to process my replacement). I mentioned that I was a little skeptical about the model since they were new on the market and it only lasted 3 months of moderate use. He gave me two options, 1; upgrade to an Avid for $40, or 2; switch to a premier 6’6ml at no charge. I had him switch it to a premier and I have not had a problem with that rod. I’ve caught well over a thousand white bass on it and probably a hundred or so walleye/sauger. Not a problem Yet. Also made in the USA, plus it has 5 year warranty instead of 2 years with the eyecon. I believe it will be 2 years in July since this happened.
So.. to sum it up, the eyecon was a good rod when it was in once piece. But the lack of durability was a big negative for me. Yeah, you’ll get a new rod under warranty but it will cost you $30 each time unless you live close enough to drive there. I babied that rod and it still broke on a small fish.
In store felt out the eyecons and not too impressed with them. Many guys like them though. Really want the Fenwick smallmouth series 74mf for rigging. Feel my Croix 7mlf is just too loaded with more than a 1/2oz sinker on it. Would double great for a pitching rod too.
I have and really like the 63mxf. Great vertical jigging rod. I paired it with a pflueger supreme
I picked up 4 or 5 for guys two yrs ago when I went up to the factory. Every single one was broken within a yr…
Pay the extra 40$ and get the avid. Worth it plus lifetime warranty on avids.

x2
The Eyecon has a 5 year warranty not 2. So far I’m happy with my 66MLF (1 year of heavy use). It’s nice to have the extra $40 to throw at reel.
You cant beat the quality and better feel of a avid and you are preserving American jobs. This isn’t even mentioning the value of the warranty.I have a newer avid and believe it is every bit as good as my 10 year old legend elite which is still working fine.
Go to the most convenient sports store that is by you, or one that you frequent a lot. Go and talk to the fishing department and ask them if there are any rods that they will replace in-store if you would ever break one. A lot of places do this now. Find the rod that best suits your needs and feels best to you. Buy it and the next time it breaks or what not you are able to go to the store and get a replacement within minutes. Scheels in Eau Claire is a great option for this.
have to eyecons the 6’6 and the 7’0 love em both if ya wanna borrow em one day duke lemme know wouldn’t be a problem buddy
I have one the rigging rod for spinners been happy so far. My buddy has 3-4 eye cons been good to him.
That 68 mxf would be great for rip jigging. Their ml seem too light for my liking. Only way I would go with a ml would be if I used braid 100% of the time.

Yep — great customer service
drive by pick one up to fish with
broke it and exchange on the way back
Went to fleet farm played with the rods they had there and also chatted with Dean Marshall and the outcome is 2 Avid 66mf rods. I can’t say enough good words about Dean as I emailed him on a sunday expecting to hear back Monday. Oh no, had disussion and sealed the deal on a sunday night. Great service from him!!
Now onto the reel search

I got the snap jig 6’8″ as a gift and so far so good. It’s the SCII blank, not their top but like I said I like mine so far.
I wish I had the balls to just go out and buy two Legend Extremes and just be done with it.
For me, the SCII rods (premier, mojo, eyecon) are too soft for jigging. That’s good for crank baits though. For any kind of jigging (walleye, panfish, bass) I prefer the SCIII Avid which have a more firm feel and better sensitivity for a modest increase in cost. The “feel” thing is a personal preference so not everyone will agree.
