ive had my lx6 for only about 2 weeks and either this thing is broke or i have no idea what im doing..first of all to see my slender at all at 30ft with manual depth and messing with the target adjust which dosnt do anything the sensitivity has to be all the way up at 25..sometimes the jig will be there for a while just fine and then it will start having problems again..i also fish alot of weed beds for crappie and gills there is no color separation in the weeds its like 3ft of just a solid color i have no idea whats going on down there if i cant see my jig or fish..my vx1 does a better job at “breaking” the weeds up.. the glare is horrible on a sunny day and the screen will barley tilt with the connections hitting the battery in the back..i contacted marcum with these problems and the guy said to leave the transducer at the top of the hole and not below the ice..WTF when has anybody ever done that and also said to download the new software b/c he said my 3.17 sucks..just wondering if i made a bad investment or if you guys can help or if im an idiot..maybe they need a redesign stradtagy

Marcum LX6 HELP

Hey bud, here are a couple things to check when you’re out on the ice that may help. When I first started out on my LX6 it took a little bit of playing around to see what I could do with the unit. First off… go ahead and put that ducer below the ice, just make sure it is level and not bumped to an angle from the bottom of the ice. 2nd thing I do when trying to adjust visibility around structure is to choose which cone angle works best. Whenever I have underwater “aggro” I lower the ping rate, this is usually for baitfish, plankton, or tree branches… sorry no weed info here the rusty crayfish eat em all up here come ice time. Once you get the cone, ping and ducer part in line go ahead and pick the color palette that shows your jig the easiest, then bring the sensitivity in after that. Lastly I use the target adjust to change the size of my jig to the way I like it. If you get the unit set up in that order it should be good to go until you want it to look different again. I fish several different types of lakes with different water clarity, bottom structure, and depth for different species, using spoons half the size of my hand down to 3mm jigs and I haven’t gotten into a situation yet that I haven’t been able to adjust my way out of.
As for screen glare in sunlight, you can raise the backlight to make it easier to see. I have also found that changing the background color to black helps too. Another thing I do is sit between my Marcum and the sun so my shadow is on the screen. With a little practice it will be easier than remembering your best friend’s phone number. Let me know if any of that helps or if you’re still stuck!March 9, 2014 at 10:13 am #1394956Thanks for responding. ..I tried to update the marcum using all the steps on the internet and failed because the computer wont recognise the marcum as a device so I guess I will have to send it back…you shouldn’t have these kinds of issues with the money I’ve spent…vx1 pro is not working right now..turns on but only red bar at the very top will not pick up bottom..bought a new transducer not the problem marcum said try a new battery. .haven’t got that far yet…showdown 5.6 very disappointing almost useless in the weeds…interferes with the lx6 bad even trying all the ir buttons…its mabe ok by itself with a clear bottom and a large jig…I cant believe that more people are not having problems with these…I honestly like the vx1 the best out of these so far…I’ve used the higher end vexilar flashers and really like those….I hope the ido team isnt paid to show how “good” these machines work…bring them in a weed bed and they wont sell a one of them…I hope my lx6 problems will be resolved, I would hate to start over with a different company but mabe thats why new York is full of vexilar. ..as for the glare issues I did tilt the screen more and changed the color it helped thanks
