Thinking about picking up a Fen wick Silverhawk Spinning rod. Looking at a 6’6 or 7′ M rod, primarily for throwing scatter raps/husky jerks, stick baits like that. Bait caster isn’t an option. Anyone have any experience good/bad with these rods? Its going to be replacing an ugly stick and I see they have a decent sale on them right now at Cabelas.

    Thanks for any input.

Haven’t used them, but doesn’t look like a bad deal. I throw a load of cranks though, and would strongly suggest the 7′. I have 3 Rapala 7′ spinning rods for throwing cranks and they’ve treated me well for years.

I typically have two in the boat with me when I’m throwing cranks, one with a smaller bait, one with a bigger.

I ve never used the silverhawk but I’ve been happy with all my other fenwicks. I would by the 7′ just for the casting distance. Make sure which ever one you buy it has a slow taper or a parabolic bend for crankbaits.

I was considering these as well, I believe they were on sale for the same price last year. The Fuji Alconite guides are usually found on more expensive rods, so from a components standpoint they seem like a good rod. I forgot to look for these last time I was at Cabelas so I could see what the action/power was like. I have seen a few complaints on the TAC material used on the fenwick rod handles, but not many.

Without ever having one in my hands I would say its a toss up between the 7′ M and the 7′ ML for your application.

    $19 to ship seems a little ridiculous…

Got 2 of these rods a month ago….caught a couple fish on them yesterday pitching 1/8 light jigs across sand flats for shallow water eyes. They fish are at times trapping the bait and I picked up settle bites even with mono on long casts!

I think they’re a good value when Cabelas has them on sale. When they are full price I would spend the extra ten bucks and get a St. Croix Eyecon. My .02
