Had a big fish on last night at a wing damn, got it to the boat, and it decided to take one last run at it, well it won. I was grabbing the net when the run started, must have got the tip of the rod caught on the side of the boat. Last two inches of the rod snapped, line tore, never got to see it. How does one go about getting this fixed/replaced??
    thanks again

Click on Service and Warranty link and that will pop up another window that has all the necessary info for returning the rods!

Sorry to hear about your misfortune! Sounds like she was a nice one. Did you get a chance to see her?

Nope, never got a sighting. You can guarantee that I will be back to find that one again.
    Thanks DeZee.
You have any tricks up your sleeve for fishing wingdams by yourself? Like anchoring, netting, taking pictures???
    I need some help….

A few tricks up my sleeve?
Well I have been known to fish a few wingdams….

One little tip when fishing a jig on a wingdam, boat placement is always critical when trying to get the correct “sweep”. By standing either in the front or back of the boat will give you a different swim rate and look to the jig when quarter casting a wingie! LEt the fish tell you what they want.
As mentioned above, anchoring can be a real do or die for me in the cold water period where the fish want a ultra slow presentation. I will find myself re-anchoring 2-4 times at each spot to compensate fir a cross wind, more or less current and obviously fish position within the structure!
Doesn’t need to sound like rocket science, but these are little things that can “deliver the goods” on those days when the fish are off the mark a bit.

As for picture taking, I use the timer on my digital camera with a tri-pod. The pictures are ok, but always better if you have an partner in the boat to tell you your zipper is down or you a major case of “bed head” going on!

I’ve managed to break the tips off of several rods in my time. Never on a good fish, always doing something stupid. I’ve had good success just putting a new tip giude on. If the taper of the rod is straight enough, you could use the same tip over again. Use heat to soften the adhesive originally used and pull out the broken section of rod. Then use a drill bit to clean it out inside, and with any luck you can slide it right back on. I’ve used 5 minute epoxy and never had one come loose. If the tip guide doesn’t fit, you can buy them at a lot of places in various sizes. This will affect the action of the rod a little bit but hey you might like the rod better with an inch or two off it

Sorry to hear you didn’t see the fish. I HATE that. I don’t mind losing once in a while (after all, it is supposed to be a sport) but I want see what it was that I just lost. Go back and get her so we can all see the picture!

Good luck with St. Croix, in the past I have found their warranty department unforgiving.
Switched to Loomis, man is it sweet, even if I slam the rod in a car door I get a brand new rod shipped to me in 3 days for $50. It’s called the Expeditor service. They also have a lifetime warranty, but I have always been responsible for my rod breakage.

Try St. Croix, but if they won’t replace it, step up to a Loomis.

The Croix replacement is only $10 but I have not seen my replacement rod yet and I sent it in 2 weeks ago. Hopefully I see it this week. I will be satisfied if I do.

Avid. The warranty for them is clear on the amount to send. The $10 was strictly for shipping. Avids and Legend Elites are covered 100% as far as I know and from the website info.

At least they haven’t contacted me yet. What kind did you send?

As I dig deeper it would seem they may charge me if they think I caused the breakage by an accident but the rod just folded and has no outward appearance of any damage. I hope they don’t want more money!!! I sent them a nice letter with details and fluffed it up with my admiration of their products as well as how many I have purchased over the years. Hopefully that takes care of it.

I just spoke to the St. Croix service dept. No additional charge for mine. They said 2-3 days for normal turnaround but my model is on back order. That is either because this model is really popular or they break alot. They said another week or so.

I think they could probably tell by the boot print on yours.

    ‘fowler

Not meaning to call you out here but how was your rod broken? Was it a defect or was it the “tip in the door hinge or blank crushed under foot” type dealie? Just curious.

I tried ripping an anchor cleat off the front of the boat. Completely my fault and I was up-front with Croix about it. Since I bought it through the employee program, I had to wait a couple extra days to get it back. I’ve still got less invested in the same rod at retail prices. Croix acted just like their warranty program states.
