There are certain brands of spinning reels I won’t stray from but not sure on the baitcasters. I’m looking to not exceed $100 and it will be used for bottom bouncers, casting spinnerbaits, cranks etc…
    Anyone use a Lews?
    Thanks!

Is this in store only? I just checked on-line and can’t find one with that price.

I have three Wright and McGill Skeet Reese baitcasters and like them much better than my Lews and better than Shimonos.Extremly smooth casting with great drags.Bought two at a hundred bucks each and found a lefty for sixty last fall.

Quantum Accurate PTi. Sweet reel for the 100 mark and you have the flipping switch which a lot of guys love for dragging the bottom

    Randy,

Have you ran this reel hard? Meaning, more than a season or two?

    Thanks,

I think Accurist would be more Accurate.

I’ve used a few of those reels, very nice.. But I bought them on sale for $79.99. I wouldn’t consider them a great reel for $100.

My suggestion is a lews speed spool (not the laser).

Yes sir. Pounded the snot out of them. They held up well to the frequent brown trout smack downs. Considering what lake trout, steelhead, and browns do compared to bass and walleyes- they got a work out. There are a few guys on here that have bought my used reels and loved them.

But you have to be realistic to what your getting at $99 vs. $200. Anything less than an entry point to the Quantum PTi series is going to be a down and dirty cheap reel. Every manufacturer is extremely cost competitive at that level. They all find ways to decrease cost which ultimately means sacrificing quality. Cheaper bearing with heavy grease will make a $29.00 reel feel smooth. I’m on my phone and hate this auto correct crap. I suggest reviewing the PTi difference on the quantum website. They cover a lot and explain key differences in their videos.
Kevin, did you buy the old accurist before the PTi roll out. If so, I understand the lack of confidence in them. Post PTi roll out, I couldn’t figure how you could experience that. I still have a pair that I pound hard and they’ll still flip a 1/4oz jig effortlessly

Thanks guys! My spinning reels are still gonna get the lions share of the work but when I use the Baitcaster I don’t want to have to fight it.

My reels were most definitely not a PTi, because the PTi is a spinning reel. Mine were AC500PT and most recently a AC100HPTA.

Ran the Energy PT bait casters all last season and really like them…The Accurist PT is also a very smooth reel for casting and has the awesome centrifugal dual brake system, redesigned for 2014.

Sorry about the “i” on there. I added the PTi to the spelling thing on my phone. I get in a hurry and I don’t always catch the insertions. Kevin if they were not as smooth as the PT’s should be- NOT SALTWATER, PLURAL- MORE THAN ONE- why didn’t you have quantum replace it?

I never said anything was wrong with them.. I just think they are a great reel at the 79.99 price point, but not the $100. At $100 there are more options that are a better reel IMO. $20 isn’t much of a difference, but you can get a few more options at $100 that are a little above the accurist IMO.

Energy, that is a different story. All I use now are energy PT and love them. Also bought for sub $100 on sale.

The Lew’s Speed Spool is probably the most popular reel at that $100 mark. Check out the reviews on tacklewarehouse.com, lots of guys saying they like them way better than much more expensive reels. I have one, very smooth, but haven’t used it enough to comment on durability.

Besides that If you can find a Shimano Citica E on closeout somewhere or on ebay those are super solid reels. I just bought the last two display models they had at Gander in Rochester. I have five of them now.

Yesterday these were on sale for $79.99. Today they are $59.99 plus a free $10 gift card and free shipping. oh yeah, Gander Mountain.
