lower unit drain / fill gaskets

    Just as an FYI, if you change your lower unit oil when its cold out and tighten the screws tight and then move the boat to heated storage, when you go to work on the boat 3 months later, take along some extra lower unit lube. Seems when it warms up and the gaskets soften up, the screws aren’t nearly as tight as they were when it was cold, and they leak. Just a heads up.

    You should replace both upper and lower gaskets each time you change it.

    They are new. My point was that if they are cold, they don’t seem to compress as much as when warm and leak when they warm up.

    I keep hearing that, but in 40 years of owning 4 different outboards, I’ve never replaced one. And never had a problem. Your results may vary.
