    Pictures not the best but…

Ever since I took trolling(long lining only) serious a couple years ago I have wanted to build myself a pair of nice shorty rods(5′),I have built a couple pairs(I always build in pairs)but I was not happy with the results, they seemed nice on the bench but they were either too heavy or too light on the water.

Well this winter I believe I have nailed it !Until water tested I will not disclose the blank I chose to use tho,as you can see I went with a long handle kit(20″)They have zero flex in the handle unlike other shorties I have tested ,the blanks are probably what I call a moderate action tip,a med power and have a TON of backbone.

The blanks were black but I lightly sanded them and painted them a maroon with a white tip, wrapped the guides with maroon thread, used Tich guides which will handle any and all hard line I choose to use.

I am exited to break them in when the weather warms a bit.

BTW… I paired them up with a couple new Diawa Sealine SG17LC3B reels.

What have you been working on ?

Do you turn your own handles from cork rings or use stock handles?

High grade stock handles, most always right from St.Croix, but a few from Mud Hole
