My Eagle UltraNav unit died last week. I was fishing in Canada and it rained for 7 days. The unit got wet and never recovered. I contacted the company, and they said the unit was too old to mess with. I am hoping to get a new unit, preferably with GPS. However, the price tag for most units is out of my budget. Would it be better to get a used Lowrance 350A, or would I be better served with an Eagle 480? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

Did you think about getting the two units seperate ? I run a Garmin 162 and a Lowrance 136 DF and I really like both units having the full screen to look at,especially the graph…
just a thought….
July 6, 2004 at 11:59 am #311307Although the 350A was a great unti for its time, I would opt for something newer. Unless I’m mistaken, Lowrance no longer services these units due to their age… they haven’t been sold in a number of years.

July 6, 2004 at 12:26 pm #311311I’m guessing the Eagle 480 is the same as the Lowrance LMS 480, which I’ve had experiance with. They (lowrance) had an issue when they first came out, but it’s been fixed.
You won’t be unhappy with the 480. Very nice..crisp arches and structure detail. What I like the best after the above, is that you can change the overlay data and it’s size of font for each screen. In otherwords…In the upper left corner you have your depth of course. You can also select a whole gammet of other things like ground speed, temp directional arrow, battery voltage, distance to the next waypoint and time (wife likes that so I get home for supper…although mine doesn’t work too good )
Among the pages of displays it’s easy to change from split gps/sonar to zoom sonar/sonar. In one of these two screens is where mine is most of the time unless I have a long haul. The other screen that I haven’t used yet..but I’m sure I will, is the sonar/flasher screen.Good Luck in your purchase and as alway, find your best price…then check with good ol’ Wade at Jolly Ann Marine….No, I don’t get paid from Wade…but when I get bad service…I let everyone know about it…I do the same when I get good service…
July 6, 2004 at 12:35 pm #311313I’ve made all my recent electronics purchases from Jolly Ann after price shopping around for the best deals. He always comes in under everyone else and as you likely know if you follow some of the comments about Wade & Jolly Ann Marine, his service is incredible.

July 6, 2004 at 3:10 pm #311348Thanks for the info guys, I really appreciate it. It seems I am changing my mind about every 10 minutes on what to buy. Currently I am thinking about the Eagle Fishmark 480 Fishfinder and then getting a hand-held GPS that I can remove from the boat and take hunting. I can’t justify spending too much right now and the Fishmark 480 seems reasonably priced. Does anybody have any thoughts on the Fishmark 480? Thanks again.
July 6, 2004 at 3:35 pm #311351i run the fishmark 480 and the intellamap 480. i like both units. i would recommend going with 2 separate units so you get the bigger screens and if one goes down you still have the other unit and you are not totally out of commission. i do have the gps rigged semi-portable, with 12volt plug and a johnny ray mount on both boats and one on the wheeler and one on the snowmobile. works in the truck also after the ice is thick enough. for the money, the eagle 480 units are the ticket.
