Anyone out there using a blade on the front of a four wheeler ATV to push snow? What recommendations can you give on what to buy. I would want a machine I could use in SD for pheasant hunting to block for the group at the end of a field when driving the truck there isn’t an option. Also has anyone found a way to carry the hunting dog with on the ATV? I’m going to be 66 this spring and can still push the cattails with the younger guys but know there is more of that in the past than in the future.

I have a honda foreman 500 love it. Plow with a 60″ moose plow moves just about anything. I strap the kennel in back rack when grouse hunting. You could also get a back rack extension. I like the metal racks vs most others brands plastic covered. Allow more option when attaching stuff. Can’t beat the reliability of Honda. However just about any atv should do what you are asking.
John SchultzInactivePortage, WIPosts: 3309December 31, 2013 at 9:38 am #1375459I run a yamaha 550 grizzly with a 60″ moose plow to plow 300 yards of driveway. Gets the job done without problem. Had a polaris sportsman prior to that one and it worked well also. I agree on the metal racks over the composite racks. One suggestion would be to get an ATV with fuel injection. My grizzly is EFI and my sportsman was not. The only recurring issue I had with the polaris was the stupid choke cable.
December 31, 2013 at 10:04 am #1375468I run a 2007 Kawasaki Prairie 360 4×4 and this machine runs great and does exactly what I need it for. Ice fishing, hunting and pushes 10″ of snow with a 48″ plow just fine.
December 31, 2013 at 10:17 am #1375475I had an 01 polaris sportsman 400 with a manual lift, 48″ blade that I did commercial snow removal with for years. It worked good, but if I were to do it all over again, I would have opted for a heavier 60″ plow that might scrape away tire tracks and beaten down side walks a little better than mine did. even with extra weight added. If you’re just doing your own driveway, any plow/wheeler combination should work great, but unless you have sidewalks, I’d still opt for a wider blade and a winch. The manual is quicker, but it can get tiring after a while and it wont raise the blade as far as a winch will. I’m not 100% sold on EFI being necessary. In the coldest of weather, I never had a problem starting my machine and if you kill the battery, there’s still a pull start option.
December 31, 2013 at 11:32 am #1375497I have an Artic Cat 500 with a 60″ plow. I have speed rack baskets for front and back. When the snow starts to get a little too heavy, I put bricks/sand bags in the baskets and good to go. I wouldn’t do anything less than 4wd 500 models
December 31, 2013 at 1:30 pm #1375538Yamaha Grizzly 660 with a 60″ Swisher plow for my 1/4 mile long driveway. Reliable ATV and the plow works well.
December 31, 2013 at 1:45 pm #1375544Theres 6 of us that go elk huntig every year, some drive fords some drive chev trucks, we all have suzuki atv,s
January 1, 2014 at 4:52 pm #1375857I also have a 500 Arctic Cat. I have an Arctic Cat plow that is a slanted plow to one side, (one side higher than the other),it really works well. Also been a great machine for duck and deer hunting.
January 2, 2014 at 9:25 am #1376062My 2006 AC500 with plow has been going strong since new. I use it to plow my cabin drive and occasional trail use by a guest.
January 4, 2014 at 6:41 pm #1376813I would look to Arctic Cat. I have had a pair of them and they both are still going strong and in great shape. 2003 AC 500 MPR and 2004 400 Auto.
They both move snow well. HOWEVER, I would not recommend a wheeler for snow removal. After using them for years I have found a two stage snow thrower on the front of a John Deere lawn tractor moves snow 100X better. Just an FYI.

Yea, but is a tractor as much fun…especially when you get to take the plow off
