I own the quick draws, I have not had any problems with them yet…YET !!! I feel that there is no locking system in them so they rely on friction pressure to hold them in…I would not buy another set of these…but they haven’t given me any problems…YET
June 26, 2004 at 4:30 pm #310133I have the 360HT rod holders, made my scotty, and I haven’t had one complaint about them. They work great and are very sturdy and durable. Thanks
Tony
June 26, 2004 at 11:47 pm #310146My son Nate has rails on his Pro V and is using Scottys on them and he seems to really like them. I myself have Roberts and Berkley quick draw ones and they work fine but the Scottys sure look nice. Thanks, Bill
June 27, 2004 at 2:13 pm #310167Thanks For All The Replies. Say Bill If You Don’t Mind Me Asking Find Out What Kind Of Scottys Your Son Has I See There Is Several To Choose From I Kinda Like The Model 280 It Has A Soft Latching Strap. There Are Other Models Like The 230 I Want To Be Able To Use For Spinning And Baitcasting.
June 27, 2004 at 10:42 pm #310206I gotta question too.
My Lund came with flush mounts but no holders.
Took me a while to find out what fit in them and Roberts holders seem to do real well.
I just read that Roberts is made by Attwood. Will Attwood then fit in the holders or do I have to get Roberts specifically?June 28, 2004 at 12:28 am #310212Attwoods and Roberts are the same I think. I think Attwoods bought Roberts. Nate got his Scottys at Cabelas. I’ll have to find out what they are but the boat is at his future father-in-laws place right now so its not in my driveway for easy looking at. Thanks, Bill
June 28, 2004 at 4:25 am #310233I prefer the Scottys. VERY strong and wide enough for a quick “up and out” with most any rod. I’ve had the same holders for 3 boats now… simply left the bases and took them with me. They show no signs of wear.

Curious to which model of Scotty’s that you have. Seen you on the water a while back and noticed that you have the optional extensions. Did you add these after trying w/out?June 28, 2004 at 2:43 pm #310281check out down east. the black powder-coat rail mount would be the model that you should look at. the rod goes in easy and comes out easy. they are made of metal, not plastic. they are smaller than the others. they are my choice on my boat now and will be on the next one also. at least give them a look………tom f.
June 28, 2004 at 8:38 pm #310371The Cabelas models are Scotty’s.
I use Fish On’s. They use a softer plastic that may or may not save on cork handles.
Don’t get Ram holders. (Ram Mounts are superb)
June 28, 2004 at 10:13 pm #310384Kevin, What’s wrong with ram holders? I got 2 sets for X-mas last year and like them. Don’t tell me there weak or something!
June 29, 2004 at 12:41 pm #310437My expierence with rod holders go a little something like this. Buy plastic ones, snag 3 or 4 times, the plastic is all rounded off and won’t hold. Buy another set, 2 weeks later the same thing. I found a brand at Galyans (can’t remember the name right now, but I’ll look tonight) metal ones. I think they are aluminum, with quick release. When you have a fish on or snag, you pull up on the rod and the clevices open up. Last week I had a huge cat inhale my rapala, thought the rod was going to bust, but the rod holder held strong. They are kind of ugly, but they work well.
June 29, 2004 at 2:24 pm #310450I have run Roberts rod holders for at least 7 years.
There made from plastic. Never had a problem with any of them.
Including snags, large Lake Michigan Brown Trout, Pike, Walleyes, Smallmouths,Catfish, you name.
The oldest ones still work and lock in place just like when they were new.
On the other hand, the rod does not come out of the Roberts rod holders as nice as it does with the Scotty’s.
My only big gripe about them is that they don’t float when there accidently dropped in the water!
JWBJune 29, 2004 at 8:00 pm #310534The Rams catch line and don’t hold rods as secure and can be difficult for beginners to seat the rod in as the Fish On, Roberts and Scottys
Plus they hang up on tree branches because they are so high off the gunnell. Not a problem if you don’t fish in trees like I do on Devils Lake I would assume.
June 29, 2004 at 10:11 pm #310570I don’t care for the RAMs for the same reasons Kevin mentioned. Except for the catching in trees part. I’ve not had that happen…

I also like the RAM’s. Have them on my current rig and they will be on my next one!
June 29, 2004 at 11:18 pm #310575I have the standard RAM holders and will be switching to the RAM ball mounts. The RAMS that I have now come up and out of the holder when you remove the rod. Not to mention customers just kinda stare at the holder and scratch thier heads after I explained ten times how the reel goes in.
JiraPosts: 517June 30, 2004 at 3:51 am #310616I asked the same question last year and ended up buying a pair of Scotty holders. Since then, I have purchased 2 more holders and 4 more mounts… not because anything went wrong with my pair, but because they are so dang sweet. Very easy to use and very robust.
I even recently purchased a pair of beverage holders that swivel and fit in the same holder mounts and also have a filet board that fits in the holder mount for canadian shore lunches. I’d recommend them highly.
My 2 cents,
JJ
June 30, 2004 at 2:01 pm #310661I’ll also vouch for Cabelas/Scottys. I have had them on my boat since I got it 6 years ago and they still look and work like new. I too got one of the beverage holders but keep forgetting I have it and never use it. Thanks for reminding me. I’m going out to the boat right now and dig it out.
July 1, 2004 at 11:52 pm #310961I have had the Cabelas/Scotty on my last 2 rigs with out any sort of problem. I would highly recomend them, very durable.
