Next season I will be upgrading my trolling motor to a new minnkota with Ipilot. The question is: powerdrive v2 or terrova. With ipilot is the only diffecence that pdv2 only can have remote control while terrova can have foot pedal and remote? I know there is a difference in thrust options. I’d be looking at the 70lb or 80lb. For those of you that have ipilot, how much do you use the remote vs foot pedal? what types of fishing are you doing? If you have pd v2, do you wish you had terrova to use the pedal at times? let me know, if the remote gets the job done, then I would rather go pd v2 and save the $$. Thanks for the input.

I use mine for 2 things, casting muskies so 50/50 pedal/remote… Trolling/casting walleyes, bass ect 80% remote 20% pedal… I could not effectivly fish with only 1 or the other after using both….

spend the dollars on the terrova, better design. I’ve had both and it’s Terrova hands down for me.

    2X…

I have the Terrova iPilot and can’t imagine fishing without it. I have yet to even use my foot pedal.

I do have a PD55 V2 US w/ I-pilot and dont miss not having a foot peddle , It depends what you have for a boat and what your budget is.. For me I have 16′ Lund /40hp so I didnt feel I needed a Terrova, I have no complaints with my PD V2, it moves my boat just fine.

It is alot of $$ just for a remote anchor

If you have a bigger boat than mine and you can swing the Terrova do it !! you WONT be sorry

The main difference is deploy and retrieval..much easier than the V2.

If you like to jig with a rod in each hand, you will want the terrova. Pretty tough to operate the remote with no free hands. I use my remote a ton, but when vertical jigging in current I still use the pedal even if only using one rod.

Tho I am used to my PD V2 and can deploy/raise it quite easily now,But I do agree with above statement

Go with the Terrova. I feel the response time is a little quicker using the foot pedal and I use my foot pedal quite a bit. Vertical jigging with two rods is a sure use for the foot pedal and more than once my remote has ended up at home when the truck backed the boat into the river to start the day. It does make you appreciate the remote after a day of using the foot pedal though. Make sure to get enough power whatever motor you end up with.

My opinion is Minn Kota should just drop the PD all together. It’s nice having a price range option, but if you bought the PD, then got to use a Terrova, you’d be upset you cHose the PD (IMHO).

Terrova out preforms the PD in all aspects.
    Again, just my $.02

I believe that the terrova also has an auto disconnect from the battery when it is stowed, saving battery life and wear and tear on the system.I currently have pdv2 with Ipilot, And although I love it, I’ll drop the Ching for terrova next time!

Like others have said I would also spend the money on the terrova and make sure it has the i-pilot with spot lock very nice feature.

Terrova hands down…granted I haven’t used a v2 but after getting a terrova there is no way a motor could beat it. Like stated before most of the time I use the remote. But sometimes that foot pedal is needed. Especially if you forget the remote in the truck.

Terrova hands down!! I upgraded to the Terrova with Ipilot this spring. The only thing I don’t like is that Minnkota only sells the Terrova with Ipilot in 45″ & 60″ shaft lengths. No 54″ with ipilot. You have to buy the motor & ipilot unit seperately and put it on yourself. Really stupid!!!!

Same here. I was out the other night and my remote went dead, there is now an extra battery in the boat for the next time that happens. I like having both avaiable when fishing. You also gain some durability with the terrova.

Terrova all the way. Makes 2 rod fishing very easy.

I hate to play a broken record, but go with the Terrova. You won’t be disappointed

What sonar are you running? Motorguide is coming out with a sweet Powerdrive unit, the Xi5 it will integrate with HDS Gen 2 units
