Think this subject has been beaten and kicked to death but going to throw out one more time.

    Deep cycle trolling motor batteries.
    Which would you buy… twist… money wasn’t a concern.

I have had outstanding luck with my Optima D31’s in a 24 volt system and they have survived 6 + years and 2 boats but I can tell it’s time for them to rest.

Nothing less than a series 31 is an option for me.

Not saying I want to buy the msot expensive, but not going to cut corners regarding $’s either.
    Thanks

I do not own them yet but have ran a couple boats this season with the Odyssey 31 series batteries in them and in 2 days we have not been able to run them down to an unusable level.

I am due for batteries after this season and they are on my list for sure!

I did the research back in August. I heard all the pros and cons…the myths and rumors. Came down to Diehard Platinum. They run on sale from time to time.

I’ve heard Odyssey batteries are good, but no personal experience. I’m on my 5th year running cheap wally world Everstarts with zero issues and not the best maintenance…

X2 This is what I put in my boat this year for my 36v Terrova. They are an Odyssey battery with Sears label.
The downside is that they are 25lbs (each) heavier than the Interstates that I replaced. That is 75lbs extra in the back of the boat.

I have smaller Diehard Platinum AGM’s and they are running strong after 4 years. (80lb terrova I-Pilot) I only have a 16.5 ft boat so I didn’t get the 31’s. my next boat will have them.

I run 2 Interstate 31’s on my PD 55/Ipilot for my 16′ 40hp 12 gal tank boat with 4 batteries total, they last around 5-6 years of use per set.

For me that’s roughly $34 a year for battery cost.

They still hold a decent charge when I replace them,I sell them to a friend that does the demo derby’s.

I believe my PD55 works harder on my 16′ Lund than a 80lb or bigger does on a bigger boat, thus mine being a 12 volt and the bigger T/M’s are 24 volt with more thrust.

Some people have better luck with other brands of batteries with other T/M’s, to each his/her own.

I also dont use a built in charger, I use a Matco automatic/manual computerized 10/2 amp charger, when batteries are new I will charge on manual at 10 amps the first time, after that I charge at 2 amp manual,it will charge deeper on the 2 amp.I alternate from 10amp one time and 2 amp next time ect…

If needed to charge overnight I use the 10amp automatic.

Biggest thing to remember is … it’s the heat that wrecks a battery NOT the cold, when charging make sure your batteries have ventilation for charging gasses or heat can escape.

Any battery that goes bad in the cold was BAD/WEAK when it was warm, remember it takes less amperage in warm weather to turn over an engine than in the cold.

I practice as stated above on my own boat and will continue to until I learn something that works better for the Interstate batteries I use.

5-6 years for a set of batteries is good in my mind !

I agree on the DH Platinum. I have replaced my starting battery with the Platinum already now just waiting for a good sale price and will replace my trolling batteries with the Platinum also.

Got my starting group 31 platinum battery on sale for $189
