I spent a lot of money to buy Blue Optima batteries throughout my boat. 2 years later, the cranking battery won’t hold a charge. Are you kidding?
So now I need to replace it. I will not buy Wally-World batteries because of past bad experiences. Am I also finished with gel cells too?

Give me an idea for a new battery please, I’m losing hope.

Sears die hards get excellent reviews and have a great warranty.

I have read mutiple issues about the optima’s that is why I just purchased the Sears DieHard Platinum AGM group 31. It has a very big following of fisherman with favorable reviews. Sears just had a one day sale last week on line and I picked it up for $189.00.

Dont quote me here but… If I remember right you can have those batteries rebuilt for $75 where ever they are sold.

There was a post about such here on IDO a while back,I tried to locate it but I couldn’t.

AC Delco marine batteries have been very good to me, and are maintenance free.

Something to consider is charging your starting battery between trips. Regardless of what battery you buy, an undercharged battery will die in a year or two. Electronics, livewells, etc. drain the battery enough that the motor alone doesn’t keep it at full charge and a battery that is always partially discharged will have a very short life.

    Good luck.

My problem was my 2 1/2 year old Interstate lead acid cranking battery would be completely dead after 10+ hours on the lake. I run a 90hp Yamaha with 1 HDS8 and 1 HDS7 plus aerator and bilge. Took the battery into 3 different locations with the last one being Interstate store and they all three said it load tested “Good”. Well with 10 hours + pulling power for the above mentioned electronics and the limited charge from the 90hp when on the move, the battery just got run down during the day. I charge it every night along with my trolling batts. I suspect even though the load test says fine the reserve cranking amps are fading and by the end of the day its dead. With all the research I have done it looks like a good AGM should eliminate this problem.

I have been an interstate fan for several years and I have been impressed with the ones in my cars and boat. I will keep going back to them until they let me down.

I would agree with you. I was not trying to bash Interstate. I was just offering why I went with the Sears DieHard AGM to alleviate my issue.

I think that the Opitma cranking battery has a Red top.

I swapped over to Group 31 AGM for my Starting/House a couple of years ago and all my problems went away. I purchased the house brand at Farm & Fleet, but Fleet Farm has the same thing. They were we under the Sears and Optima in terms of price.
