Any one have any input either pos. or neg. on this particular engine??
Heresay … but I’ve heard the 90 and 115 Etecs have had a good track record. 150 and above is where many of the problems were (blown heads, fires, etc).
DON’T DO IT!!!! RUN LIKE THE WIND AND DON’T LOOK BACK!!!
I had two both 2007 on a new boat. The first one never even made it off the dealers lot. The motor ran fine out of water but wouldn’t run once in the water. The replacement for that one lasted almost a month. Then I received a certified letter from BRP stating I must cease using the motor immediately and take it to a certified deal for repairs. Failure to do so would result in the warranty being void and failure to do the repairs could result in a powerhead failure. Was without the boat for a week waiting for the computer to be replaced. I ended up selling the boat and motor the next season. That was after the following problems. 1 had the mapping of the motor worked on 4 different times. 2 motor had an oil leak that was never fixed after 3 different attempts by two different dealers. 3 once the motor hit about 3800 rpms it would miss and ran rough. no one could find the problem. 4 motor kept overheating replaced water pumps numerous times and was never fixed. 5 at 21 hrs the powerhead failed and blew up. 6 at 37 hrs powerhead blew again. Keep in mind this was all in 1.5 seasons of fishing. This is why I say RUN DON’T DO IT.
Not sure what happened with this guy but I would give a thumbs up to my ETEC 115. I’ve had it for 4 seasons now, put a moderate amount of time on the water and it pairs nicely with my 16 foot Mirrocraft dual impact (1500 pound +/- total weight). No warranty issues have ever been sent to me, my dealer happens to be awesome (shout out to Holmen Marine ). I’d buy one again except my next boat will probably be a little bigger with the bigger family we have now (we got two foot-itis and need a 19 footer)

I have owned both a 115 and a 90 Etec and both are great engines. The most important aspect of the Etec is to have it serviced by a knowledgeable dealership. Most serious problems occur due to poor service by unqualified techs. I will give a shout out to Jerry’s Sport Service in Beloit for their excellent service.

Just stay away from the 2007 year outboard…they got the bugs worked out

Same dealer I used primarily also tried AL’s in Rochester.
I rana 90 etec for ten yrs. Best motor I ever owned. Bought a 115 this spring and have had no issues thus far. Plenty of power and smooth running.
Anytime I have a friend ask me about a motor I usually encourage them to search boat related forums. You usually can figure out for yourself if it’s a motor for you or not. There is a site up in ak that has a lot of good info on the newer opti and etec type motors with a lot of hrs out in the bush.
