Looking for some input on batteries from you guys.

My uncle has a lund fisherman 1700 and he is in the market for trolling motor bateries. He is running a 24v I-pilot trolling motor.

My question is what kind of batteries are you guys running and what size? Does the size of the battery make that big of a difference? He is looking to run all day on the water and fishes the river aswell as lakes.

    Thanks for the input

Been quite a few posts lately on batteries so you may want to do a search. I’ll let others discuss brand, but yeah, if you’re talking trolling all day, bigger the better. Group 29s or 31s I’d say.

Cabelas AGMs work great In my alumacraft navigator 175, I believe I went 27 series to limit weight In the boat and they will go all day long in pool 4 spring current, 7 yrs running the same 24v system have not replaced them yet…

I run 27 series optima blue tops and love them. remember weight when looking at different batteries. 31 series agm can weigh up to 80 pounds a piece

My friend is a parts buyer for a large auto group. He gets me great deals on any battery I want. This year I went with 3 enersis oddesy deep cycle 31’s. I’d give them a 25% greater run time than the optimas I previously had. Most of the other batteries these guys are posting about are all Johnson control batteries. Cabelas, interstate, diehard, etc! Just a different case on the same battery. Do your research and you’ll find out that info also.

Odyssey (I’m assuming is the same you reference) is made by EnerSys. And, when you complete your research, you’ll find that they rebadge their batteries for Sears under the Diehard name. The cool thing is that they are a fraction of the price. When I talk with tourney guys that are sponsored by Odyssey…they truly have Odyssey in their boats. When I ask guys that aren’t sponsored by a battery maker…they have Diehard.
