It’s been a terrible year thus far for gnats in this part of Iowa. Would the members share their favorite lotion/potion and help save their angling brethren. Hot items in this area are vanilla candle scent(an oil) and John Deere hand soap. Just a little dab will do ya!
    Always looking for something better.

    Thanks,
    Charlie

Absorbine Jr., the liniment. 2 or 3 dabs on your hat will keep them out of your face. Has a smell, but they don’t like it either.

I highly recommend the above, Absorbine Jr

I have heard that BOUNCE drier sheets keep the gnats away, pin them to your hat or collar.

    FYI
I tried the dryer sheet thing yesterday. I started by rubbing it all over my head, face, and neck and then tucked it in my shirt collar since I seldom where a hat.
Results- I smelled april fresh. That’s about it. That gnats still lit and bit.
Next, I’ll try the absorbine jr. So far the Avon Skin so Soft has been the best repellent, even beating vanilla.

herb, Whatever works is the best. I’ve tried several remedies, but I always seem to come back to Pourette vanilla candle scent. It is available in one of our local farm stores. The company is located in Seattle and their site is pourette.com. Experience tells me not to get it in the eyes and don’t apply on facial skin if perspiring. The stuff tends to burn. I have tried cooking vanilla and that is pretty much ineffective. This product does nothing for mosquitoes. I can’t vouch for the Deere hand soap yet, but I bought a can to try the other day. It only cost about 2 bucks so even if it doesn’t chase away the gnats I can still use it to wash my paws.

    Happy gnatting,
    Charlie
