Cleaning my filthy boat

Admittedly, I’m not the greatest at keeping my boat clean. Partly because I fish a lot of areas that are accessed by miles of gravel roads only, and I live in the country on a gravel road as well….and partly from laziness.

As you can see, it’s a little dirty. I washed it and sprayed it down with vinegar and let it sit a while, hoping that it’ll eat some of the grime off (and that’s why the 1st pic looks so bad). I can see already that this will take multiple applications and lots of time. I know in the past I’ve used Zing and it seemed to work well, but not sure if it’d cut thru this grime or not. Anyone have any ideas, suggestions, or tips/tricks that I’m not aware of? Thanks in advance.

Ive heard lots of praise for the JJV’s best products. When I bought my new to me boat I wanted to give it a good bath and I didn’t find any of their product locally and ended up going with star bright hull cleaner. It did a really good job getting the scum line off and also took off the oxidization (I assume that’s what it was) that was ‘dulling’ the finish (12 yr old boat). Then I did a regular wash down and waxed it with some spray as you dry wax. Only downside was now all the paint chips stick out that much more.

Softsoap. Works great on the scum line, cheap, and easy to find. Wet the boat, put Softsoap on with a sponge and gently work it around, let sit for 15-20 mins, hose off.

Also, it makes a big difference if you keep your boat waxed. The scum and dirt come off so much easier.

Well, I used a 50/50 water/muriatic acid mix and washed the boat down with it, and was amazed at the results. It got dark on me, but it sure looked like nice, maybe the nicest it’s been in years. I’m looking forward to waking up tomorrow and checking it out.
