Vexilar Edge vs Lowrance

I know that some of you use the Vexilar Edge with two transducers – 38 and 10 degrees sweep. With my current LMS 350A the standard transducer gives me a 20 degree sweep. Couldn’t I just add a 50Khz with a 36 degree sweep and have about the same thing as the Vexilar?

I doubt it. My understanding is the 50 khz setting is for deep water (Ocean) use. Like 150 and on down. Not sure how it would perform in a typical “Less than 30 feet deep” situation for walleyes. I know that the option to change to the 50 khz transducer is buried deep in a sub menu on the 350a. Pain in the but to physically change the transducer cord, scroll deep into a sub menu and change the setting every time you want to look a your 50 khz view. (Then un-do it all to get back to the standard 200 khz)

The beauty of the Edge is both transducers run at the same time. And the cones overlap. So to 400 cone is operating inside the 107 cone. Both signals are viewed at the same time on a split screen. It is truly like having 2 separate finders built into one box. Nothing else like it from any manufacturer.

Like Jon said, that’s not gonna work. Your unit is not set up with that capability. A guy can run a regular dual frequency unit (50/200khz) and switch back and forth but your still not getting what the Edge offers. And remember, a 50khz transducer is designed to penetrate deep waters. It is subject to interference and you will get a less accurate, more poorly defined image when using 50khz.

I agree with Jon. The Edge is the only locater using the split screen 2 tranducers. I love mine. I have friends with other Lowrance units and they do not compare to the Edge its grayline makes it very hard to miss fish holding tight to the bottom plus the 2 transducers help eliminate dead zones on steep drop offs etc.

I did a lot of research over the last few months…If Vex would come out with a color version of the Edge, with there customer service…they would corner the market for midrange locators.
They’ve already cornered the market with their outstanding service. Unbeatable….
