Probably an obvious answer; but I have a 16′ alumacraft with a 20″ transom. The Yamaha t9.9 comes in a 20″ or a 25″ shaft. I say the 25″ am I right? Just need to know before I buy. Thanks in advance. H

20″! The 25″ will drag in the water while running main motor.

Sorry I should have been more clear; this will be the main motor

On a 20″ transom the motors having 20″ shafts are the proper choice. 15″ shafts go on 15″ transoms and 25″ shafts go on 25″ transoms. Look up the motor you are intending to buy on boats.net there will be specs as to the intended applications including transom heights.
