Transom Saver; or another option??

I just re-powered today to a 40hp Yamaha 4 stroke tiller on my 16′ Lund. I was wondering about the best option to keep the motor from turning while trailering. I am sure the transom can sustain the weight of motor but I want to keep it from rotating when I turn.

    1. Is the transom saver (in the picture) my best option??
    2. Is there a block or something else I could use in replace of the transom saver??
    3. Or do I even need the transom saver and can the motor turn freely when I trailer it??

    Thanks…

Try using the search button for here on IDO (under “My Home”), there have been two big debates on this in the last 1 to 2 years as I recall.

I would have to agree with that.
