My new ipilot has been getting a major workout the past few weeks. I take the kids with me almost all the time. As you can see, son Isaac is a ham.
Anyway, the kids always get my attention to help them become a better fisherman and fisherwoman. The problem is boat control–then bait hooks–then the boat is crooked–then net fish–then we are drifting off the hotspot–then get snacks. You get the picture.
SPOTLOCK SOLVES ALL THAT! Over the last few days, we were on the Crow Wing Chain near Nevis. The wind blew and blew. The crappies and sunnies were close to the lilypads and the shelf was steep…rising from 18 fow to 3 feet in a few boat lengths. AND the WIIIIINNNDDD would push us parallel to the shore-not what we wanted. Hitting spotlock on the Terrova kept us in the zone the whole time and I could do what the kids needed. Sure, anchoring with over 100 feet of rope might have been an option, but a major pain.
If you like to hold a spot for a while, then move, and then hold another spot and so on, the spotlock is awesome.
Last Winter on Pool 4, Tim kept whispering, “Spotlock, spotlock, spotlock” everytime I fiddled around trying to keep us in the zone. Now I got it!
(No, this is not a commercial for Minn Kota–just showing how the gear we buy sometimes actually does the job.)
