Saving Jigs

I just found an easy and inexpensive way to save all of your lightly rusted jigs. I had a large box full and I hadn’t even used half of them yet and they were starting to rust from always getting wet. Now I dont mean to sound cheap , but since I’m only 15 I can’t really afford to buy 200 new jigs each spring so my dad came up with this idea. After throwing away the severly rusted ones, lightly spray the rest with WD-40 or similar lubricant. Leave it on for a while and then set the jigs in the sun for them to dry. It gets rid of and stops the rust and the WD-40 might even attract fish! Just thought I would post this hopefully helpful tip for anybody that wants to use their jigs for more than a couple of months. Thanks

The other thing you can do is melt them down and buy some new hooks to make new jigs. Some of that rust, although it may come off easily, can really weaken the hooks.

Yeah I thought about the rust weakening the hooks so I threw out all the jigs with even the slightest rust on them. I figured it wasn’t worth losing a trophy ‘eye to a rusted 10 cent jig. I think the WD-40 will more protect against rust than get rid of it. Does anybody have any more suggestions on protecting against rust? Thanks
