Now that I am drop shot fishing more I think I need to add a drop shot keeper (vs. a hook keeper) on my drop shot rod. I haven’t found an easy way to secure my drop shot rig on my rod.

When I Google image “drop shot keeper” a ton of pictures with different designs come up. My question is does anybody have any experience on which design to get (or not to get)??

A link or picture would be great…Thanks.

I use a Bull shot (a bullet shaped split shot) for my drop shot sinker and when stored I just slide the sinker up to the hook and leave the tag end of the line dangle.

Put a knot in the line to keep the sinker from slipping off the end.

The beauty of the bull shot is you can turn the sinker around backwards the grab the bottom better.

I have a fenwick elite tech bass series drop shot rod, medium back bone -extra fast tip (The bass series prior to the release of the smallmouth and walleye elite techs). The drop shot holder works great if you look up that piece tied into the rod. Other rods I have used for this application, I have used a small rubber band wrapped several times around the cork behind the reel seat. When using the rod I roll it down to the very end of the cork. When in storage I place the hook in the rod hook keeper, reel tension to the line, then slide rubber band up on cork. Flip all the pieces of rolled up rubber band over the drop weight and its line, then lightly roll rubber band back towards the cork end until the line tightens between the weight and hook but does not pull the hook off or loosen it too much. Works great.

Thanks…I will look at those two options. Although I like to a “slinky” drop shot sinker option. This idea was from my steelhead days where we use this to reduce snags from rocks.

Like flatland fowler I just use a rubberband on the handle. Hook the hook in the hook keeper in some other location near the reel. Then wrap the drop line around the handle several times and put the weight under the rubberband. Cheap and work well. Keep a few extra rubberbands handy, you will break a few each summer.
