I have limited storage and weight is a issue in my boat but would like to move up to a 24v system. Has anyone ran smaller batteries with their 24v TM? I believe my 55lb is hooked up to a group 27 now which usually makes it the day. Do they make a smaller deep cycle then a group 27? My boat is wide open with one storage compartment so the more room I save for life jackets etc the better.

I think they only sell one size at Fleet Farm, but may have different options at a battery specialized store.
I have a super good luck though with the Fleet Farm batteries.

Whats is the reason for the change? Does your 55lb move the boat fine and you are looking for more battery life or do you need more power?

Everstart does make a 24 series deep cycle. If your just looking for more battery time and your motor moves the boat fine dont rule out going to 2 batteries in parallel which will make basically 1 big 12 volt battery. Just make sure batteries are of the same size and age because its only as good as your worst battery when in parallel.

Power is the main reason. I usually use my 55 to slow me down when drifting down river and to hold spots on the lower flow rivers I fish but it is under powered when I get on the Mississippi and st croix. It’s nice to have enough to make it back upriver if your snagged or want to make a few more casts at a piece of cover.

i currently use DieHard Platinum AGM’s from Sears and I use the smaller one. i am at work and can look when I get home. But they are smaller than conventional cranking batteries. Going strong in year 4 and I have a 80 pound terrova with i-pilot.

Quite a few companies make group 24 deep cycle marine. Wont instantly give you more room but they will be lighter by a couple pounds each.

Just did a quick search and found a chart that showed it is 20lbs difference from a group 29 to a group 24 interstate.

29 to 24 is a big jump. You might want to consider 27’s before you jump to 24, if you fish long days holding in current or trolling you might burn them up. With two 29’s on a 70# maxxum I can troll slack water for about 20 hours comfortably, usually on 25-35% range. The boat first came with a 55# 24V old style motorguide and two group 24’s. I could get about 12 hours on them before I was up to 100% to keep the boat under control.
