Awhile back ago we were talking about copilots and I was wondering if everyone who had one still liked theirs and if it has been trouble free. I bought one, nice new toy to play with on vacation, and am hoping they are still a nice option to have. Thanks, Bill

It says in the book that it beeps for each step change in speed. I guess I’ll find out. But I didn’t hear anything when I tested it in front of the house. Thanks, Bill

Yep !! Thats right Bill,,,It beeps for every function. 2 beeps for off, 1 beep for on and 1 beep for every increase or decrease in speed..But mine beeps all the time while it’s on…

I have had my co-pilot for 1 year now & really love using it. I haven’t used the foot pedal unit yet & have had no problems at all with the co-pilot. Have fun trying it out Bill.

Bill, I’ve had mine for a year now and absolutley love it. I slap the remote on my wrist and go. Haven’t used the foot pedal since. I find that it is much easier to manuever the boat and change speed to adjust for the cruiser waves or when snagged. No more cord all over the boat to get tangled in the net, rods and dog. The beep can be annoying at times, but what can you do, atleast I know if I bump the button digging for a minnow.
    Just my 2 cents.

Thanks guys for the imput. I had the boat sitting in front of the house for a bit Sunday and I had the remote on my wrist and I must of bumped it or something as I looked out the window and the blade on the trolling was spinning. This toy, besides being very handy, could also be alot of fun as a big remote boat operating it from shore. Can you imagine the look on peoples faces. Or the the look on mine if the boat doesn’t come back. lol. Kids and their toys hey. Will we ever grow up?
    Thanks, Bill

ps. Ecknook, I heard that there were a few problems with them when they first came out but everything is suppose to be fixed and working ok now. Might want to contact MinnKota about your problems with it to see if they will help you with it.

After a quick call to Minn Kota and a better review of the Operating Instructions there is an Audio Modes Section in the manual…By pressing the increase and decrease speed buttons at the same time you can change this chirp setting… I totaly missed it the first two times i read through it..

but now i’m good to go

    Koonce,

The unit should not continually beep. Try changing the battery in the remote. If that does not work, try going through the programming sequence and set the remote to another channel.

My unit has served me well. I get a ton of use out of it. However, one of my remotes is acting up and I suspect it’s the battery.

On a side note, earlier this spring I mentioned in another post that my T-motor batteries were on the 5th season and going strong. Well, my motor (MinnKota Powerdrive 65) started acting up and not responding to the foot pedal or remote. It was a weird deal. Lot’s of intermittent failures. I’d get pissed at it and give it a hard kick and then cuss at it and it would work for a while then stop. Almost tossed it overboard. Well, I replaced the batteries and everthing works great now. (Even though the batteries held a charge and tested out fine) I think even though it was getting 24 volts it was not getting enough amps?? Don’t know but I’m a happy camper again now.

Funny, looks like we were typing at the same time. Looks like you have it figured out.

Hmmmm, I don’t think I’ve ever looked back to see it running , well ok, I do unplug my trolling motor now. the best thing was the other day I had my 2 remotes for whatever reason, and I kept bumping the one in my pocket, It only took me an hour or so before I fugured it out

I like mine for fishing a lake. When you are just dragging bait around, or repositioning a drift it works well. I hardly ever us it while fishing the river, or for following shore and casting. One other thing that bugs me is when I have one or two other people in the boat and I’m running the copilot from the back, I can not see the head of the trolling motor, and don’t know what direction it’s facing until I turn the unit on and start moving the boat. Other than that it is nice, and I have had no problems with it at all. I have had it on since last August.

I went to Lake Zumbro today bass fishing with B-Fish-N Tackle Ringworms and K-tails and my first experience with the copilot today was great. I love the thing. It is so handy to use. I wear the remote on my right wrist like a watch and fish and cast with a spinning rod/reel and it works great. I can move around anywhere in the boat and still have perfect control of the front trolling motor with it. Works great when very slowly moving along the shoreline casting towards shore. When fishing an area where there are waves or wind and you have located a good spot where there are fish instead of trying to fight the wind/waves I just faced the front of the boat into the wind/waves and fished out of the back of the boat and when the boat got closer towards shore from the wind or waves from a passing boat I just hit a button on the remote which is on my wrist and the boat goes out forward from the shore and when its at the correct distance I just hit the off botton or hit the botton to slow the speed to hold me there. Worked great! Another toy to spoil us fisherman.
    Thanks, Bill
