I-Pilot Link……….Way Cool

I installed dad’s new Terrova/I-Pilot Link this weekend. After doing the updates to his 898c SI and then the I-Pilot Link I got a chance to test it out on land (water test will have to wait).

As an I-Pilot Gen 1 user I can say I was immediately impressed with the remote features and design for the I-Pilot Link. I then took the opportunity to track down Jason’s Seminar on-line. I used my iPad and plugged that into the big screen so we could watch the seminar. Now dad is really excited and cannot wait to get out and test his new toy.

I find it amusing (and frustrating) trying to show/educate a non-electronic generation adult all these new features of technology.

I also have been impressed, but still am learning. I can tell you that on water if you rush your mark, contours or spot locks that the system sometime will freak out a bit, but I believe that has more to do with me. If I wait until the boat is not moving and start a function I do not have a problem. Always be ready to regain manual control.

Yeah, that is an angler learning curve thing. The I-Pilot Gen 1 did the same thing. It takes a little time (and “mistakes”) to learn the subtle ways I-Pilot functions.

    Wade,
I got to run the I Link on the water for a couple of days this year. Cool product for sure, just a heads up the battery life sucks. The remote was fully charged and it couldn’t make it through a day of fishing. Make sure you have your charger in the boat with you if you plan on being out on the water and using your remote!

Thanks. I was wondering about that very thing.

Ha. I give him credit for trying! My dad still refuses to join the cell phone era. Hope your dad enjoys his new toys…sounds like fun will be had.

Like it or not you will “be in your Dad’s boat” someday (if you are lucky enough to live that long). Hope the person that teaches you doesn’t have your better than thou attitude.

This is the reason I am sticking with my original I-pilot for now….just replaced the battery after 3 years for the first time and it was still working!
