I have 24v system and wondering if it is worth the extra money to buy the 3 bank charger and have it hooked up to the cranking battery or just go with a 2 bank for the deep cycles. Thought it would be nice to make sure the cranking battery was fully charged. Some places I fish I don’t need to run the motor very long sometimes only 5 or 10 minutes don’t know if this will keep the cranking battery charged. Looking for opinions.

I wouldn’t spend the money and not go 3 bank charging! I’s soo nice to always have all the batteries full charge and haven’t had trouble durring the day!

3 bank is the way to go because you don’t have to worry about your starting battery not being charged. 5-10 minutes may not be enough to charge back what you used to start the motor plus if you have any electronics connected to your starting battery they will drain it even further. Better safe than sorry. This spring I just installed a 3 bank after my 2 bank and the 1 bank (starter battery charger) died and I’m very happy with the decision.

I just made the upgrade from a 2 bank charger to a 3 bank charger. It is nice not having to worry about the starting battery being charged. I went with the minn kota MK330D.

Do all three banks have to be used? In other words can I buy a three bank in anticipation of expansion in he future, but only hook up two batteries to it for the time being. I vaguely recall that this is not recommended or allowed.

On most you can, no problem. Just have to look in the instructions or call CS to find out.

I wouldnt just lay the leads loose in your boat though, I would cover them up with some electrical tape or something.

Some days you dont motor much but still use your electronics or live well depleting the main battery. Its nice to have all 3 charged.
