Used Boat Help

I have been looking at used bass boats online for a while now. So, of coarse I have the aluminum vs. fiberglass debate, but does anyone have opionions on flooring/decking?

We had a old v-hull with wood flooring and decking that held up pretty well, but I know eventually wood is going to need to be replaced. I’m leaning towards buying something a little newer, that has aluminum or fiberglass flooring and decking, but I think a lot of the older boats in my price range have plywood in them.

Is this something I should even bother worrying about?

Always walk every square inch of a boat when checking them out. No soft spots = good to go. Aluminum boats of today still use wood! If you store your boat outside, let it dry out good after rains, then cover it well and there shouldn’t be any issues! Good luck in your search!

I guess my answer would depend on the type of water you are going to fish, your price range and your engine size.

If you’re running skinny water in rocky rivers, alumuninum. Bigger lakes/rivers fiberglass is mice to have.

If your price range is low and/or a small boat suits you, aluminum may be the way to go.

If you want a bigger boat and can afford it fiberglass is nice.

Lot’s of reasons to go either way. You just have to figure out what you want…

Thanks for the info, sounds like you think wood floors are ok. I was hoping to get some more people chiming in with pros and cons, but maybe my post subject didn’t quite fit.

I dont know how many years they have been doing it, but a lot of aluminum boats use aluminum and even some other materials besides wood in the floors now. Its just hard to know which ones because there isnt as much info on boats as there is on something like cars when you are looking at older ones.
