My pee hole is ripped. It’s not as painful as it sounds, though.

The grommet that pushes through the case is ripped inside the case, and it dumps water and drains below it through the case. I’m going to call the merc dealer in CR on Tuesday, but since I’m flying to the TC on Tuesday night for a three day work adventure, I thought someone might be able to point me to a reliable parts dealer in MPLS/StPaul area that might have one.

I won’t have much time at home this week, as opposed to likely being off Thursday afternoon in the cities with nothing to do but sit in the airport and wait (okay, maybe there’ll be a beer consumed in there somewhere).

Stopped by Twin City outboards on Thursday afternoon and picked up a new water outlet. Less than $5 after tax, and I’m pretty darned happy about that.

Installation took about 15 minutes, and I put it in sideways so that I could see it easily from the driver’s seat (the older mercs shot straight out the back and you had to turn the motor or stand up to see whether it was shooting or not). If anyone else has an older merc or mariner that shoots straight out the back, there’s just one screw with a plastic hook that holds the outlet in place; I highly recommend turning it.

Now for the second wierd thing: My motor takes about 6 or 7 seconds to start shooting water. The water pump is brand new this year, with less than 5 hours on it. Once it starts, it’s a solid stream. Not sure what to think, is that normal? It’s always been the case that it takes this long, but the newer motors seem to start immediately (many start while the engine is cranking even).

It might take a little while to build up pressure. Some have thermostats and won’t shoot very much out until they warm up.
