like which ones ?
I just hope our fine sponsors will please keep the shelves stocked! It might just be me, but it seems like I can NEVER get the colors or sizes I want with Flicker Shads. Every flippin time, there are empty slots and 9 out of 10 times it’s just what I was wanting.
Now I totally get that stocks run down at the end of summer, but seriously! Empty shelves in June and July? There’s still over half the season left.
I can’t buy it if it isn’t there.

Sounds like gander mountain here. Every silver/black, silver/blue, firetiger, and gold/black shad raps are out of stock by june. All the flicker shads except for one or two colors of the #4 or or #9 are gone. They get stock on that stuff once a year and that is it.
BUT
Half the time I ask the manager there if they have any more in stock and usually he says “yeah we have a couple boxes back in the back”. doing a lot of good in the back room when your shelves are bare.
or my favorite
Yeah we have a case of those in the back but we are holding them for someone. You get 2 cases a year and you are holding a case of #5 firetiger deep shad raps for someone when you have 0 on the shelf?
I would say that half the time when it comes to buying tackle, I walk out of a store with less than I would have bought because things are out of stock.
And it just doesn’t make sense most of the time. Case in point, boat covers. Went into Gander Woodbury on Saturday looking for a cover for my dad’s new boat. They had next to nothing. And this is the spring when they should be stocked up! What a crock.
The Flicker Shads are just terrible as far as finding what I want, in the sizes and colors I want, WHEN I want it. There’s ALWAYS lots of colors and sizes sold out.
Totally agree, Kevin. If the stores want to bost sales, just keep stock on the shelves. As I said, I understand letting things run down at the end of the season, but the END of the season is NOT June.

Grouse, I don’t think your taking into consideration “purchasing” season at the corporate level. I’m not defending them, and I agree entirely with what your saying. Just from working so many prostaff events in the spring/fall, I see a lot of the buying habits from the purchasing agents. Since the depression really kicked in around 2006, all the box stores have grossly reduced inventory and changed their spending habits. It was nice when many had 50 million dollar lines of credit and could hold 30-40 mill on the shelf. But those days are done and they use their spring income to pay for summer, summer for fall…and so on. Also, the vast majority of purchasing is done 6-8 months in advance. All the sales items you see around the first weekend of March were results from contracts signed back in June/July So when product runs low, they are already chin deep in purchasing for 2 seasons from now.
I totally get why the retailers do it, Randy. It makes sense from that point of view, but the one thing that you can’t gauge is what the customer would have bought if it would have been on the shelves.
Oh the irony of modern bricks and mortar retail. Complaining because everyone’s buying stuff off of Amazon and the interweb, but then the only places that have it in stock are Amazon and the interweb.

Stop into Joes, I think you will be impressed with the amount of flicker shads.
Click on the Joes banner, you will find a great price on the web site right now.
Off subject but I sure like Joe’s advertisement to the left, very fitting for the store. I saw an opening and I thought I’d put it out there.
