Is the stuff they put in boats for flotation a ‘special’ type of foam, or would a froth pack do the same thing? I’ve got some upgrade plans for my livewell (overflow scupper, recirculating pump) and I know I’m going to have to disturb some foam and just curious if a froth pack (or great stuff for that matter depending on how little I can get away with disturbing) would work just as well to replace what I will have to carve out?

I do believe it is a Marine foam, which is a closed cell foam and does not absorb water.

Something like this>> . marine foam

Do NOT repeat NOT use Great Stuff! Most spray foam is open cell and will absorb water.

If possible, cut chunks out with a keyhole saw and then glue them back in place. Removing small pieces won’t have much of an impact over all.

Buy one of those cheap orange life jackets that just go around your neck. Their just 1/4 inch sheets of closed cell foam held together wrapped in plastic then wrapped by the outer shell.
