Bought a boat with an HDS7 on it. My old boat had a Humminbird 788ci and it was basically turn it on and go. This Lowrance has a crap-ton more bells and whistles on it and I’d like to get it setup to be efficient at all times. SO…
Can anyone give me the 5 settings or so I need to change from factory settings to maximize chart/graph/scanning?

    Also…
when I go over 25 mph my depthfinder loses contact with the bottom and just makes vertical lines until I slow down. I can’t believe that it’s not a high speed transducer. Could be mounting issue??

loss of bottom is probably a transducer mounting issue. Either mounted too high and it is out of the water when you are on plane, or tilted too far up so it is pointing a little behind the boat and you are out of range of the return before it comes back.

I don’t change much on my settings. I run auto depth, but manual sensitivity and adjust accordingly depending on water depth and clarity. Surface clarity, I can’t remember where I set mine. Just play with it and see what works best.

The HDS units run pretty flawlessly on automatic, so you may be happy running that way. Otherwise, just play with it and see what settings you like best. What one person thinks is awesome may look like crap to you.

I run my 8 on auto and have set on Shallow water use , In canada or deeper lakes I have to run fresh water to get it to work at 40-60 mph ,i would agree look at mounting location and see if it’s flat to bottom of the boat ,if mine gets tipped up in shallow water it won’t read at full speed.
