Well, I tell you what. Tie up 3 in 1/8oz send them to me and I’ll let you know if they work
Haha. Do my odds of a trophey eye go up if I have chartreuse hair?
Good question!
I think that would be an awesome combo
I’ll buy some if you make ’em

Only if it is in a mohawk

Darn it looks like another night without sleep, you would think by now I could tie in my sleep
Does the buck tail stay spread out like that under water? What does the synthetic do under water? I don’t remember ever fishing with hair jigs.

I was just thinking the same thing! I have never fished with a hair jig either. Guess I need to find some and give it a shot.

Bucktail doses not stay spread out underwater when dragged ,but when jigged it does when you take the tension off the jig.
Synthetic hair flows like a worm motion but stays bunched up when wet and I think works best with meat(minnow)
To better understand it,play with one in a sink and watch the action of both types of hair.
I agree with what Jeff said. Also, I like buck n rubber because it does cause the hair to flare out. It gives the bait a different profile. And the color combos are endless.
Do the jigs start as small (whatever size wanted) barbed jig heads then you paint and tie on the hair of choice? Barbed makes sense for holding the hair on (in my mind). Or is the barb just something else to fight with as you tie it?
I prefer collarless jigs over lead barb. Some prefer the lead collar. I doubt the fish care. Just a tiers preference to get the hair to what they want.
Correct. You paint first then tie. Many YouTube videos to show this. Maybe we need to have an IDO jig tying class. That would be a riot! I have four vices and bobbins
See how the hair flares with the rubber? It just hangs straight on the black and pink. Each has its time and place… time to start tying!

I use 2 different jigs to tie each hair.
Left is my bucktail jig and right is my synthetic hair jig
I had Hutch make me some with purple and chartreuse tail last year. Worked great for me.
