I dont have the 178c but I do have the 188C last years model. Easy to read and very powerfull. I go Rainy lake every spring and the downloadable fishing hot spots map is very accurate. Navigating this lake without a good gps unit is nerve wrecking. My unit has an external anntena and I mount this to the top of the houseboat. Once I get to my spot I put it back on my boat. Heck my wife can even drive the houseboat (untill she sees rocks). I try to tell her that thats all just part of the adventure. I like the garmins so much that Ive just installed the 250c on my autopilot universal sonar troll motor up front. Got it through Wade at Jolly Ann. Even with the long backorder Wade warned me of; he assured that I would have it befor I head to Rainy on 6/12. I got it with 2 weeks to spare; your the man Wade. Thanks for all the help. These Garmin units are great so I dont think you would be dissapointed. Also with the the FHS downloaded in the unit it saves a ton of time finding underwater structure. On a lake such as Rainy; it could eat up alot of fishing time looking for this stuff with the paper map; even with a good fish locater.
The Garmin 178C has been incredibly popular this season but I have not had any feedback on them yet. It’s too early to know much but they look like a great unit to me.
Hatchetman, hope that 250C treats you right when you’re on your trip to Rainy! Enjoy!! – Thanks, Wade
Hear is the first question for garmin guru. Its on the 188c I use. Whats the best way to clean the viewing screen. Ive also got some marks on it that must have came from cleaning it. This upcomming off season; what would the approx. cost be to send it in to have a new screen installed. Heck, maybe it is covered under warranty. Also will you be answering questions about the accuracy of the fishing hot spots product?
