I was wondering if someone could give a little help? I currently own a 182 Tournament Series Crestliner. I was in the market for a kicker. I was looking @ a 10 HP. The thing is I might be upsizing to 19′ or perhaps 20′ boat. Will a 10 HP be enough for any of those boats? Any comments are welcomed!

You can’t go wrong with the Yamaha T-8. This is an 8hp motor with an oversize prop made specificaly for using as a kicker. I have a Crestliner 182 T.S. as well and it pushes my boat around great

The merc is larger, heavier and unless you drop the extra $$ and get a Big Foot lower unit, won’t come with a high thrust prop. With the T-8 you get electric start & trim/tilt standard that you won’t get on a standard merc and most importantly, the T-8’s just flat out run better. My experiences with a merc 9.9 in 2000 were behind my move to yamaha. That cold blooded pig ran so poorly for me and was in the shop twice for fixes to the swivel tube / tilt bracket that I needed to look for a more reliable kicker.

I have a T-8 on my 620 and it works awesome!
Great little motor, I use it all the time.

I too am a Merc Man thru and thru…

But next to my 50 Merc is a T-8 by Yamaha…there is no better “kicker” motor

Thanks for all the advice (James, Buckshot, ecnook). Its really bad to hear that coming from another Mercury guy, but I guess the truth is the truth. I guess I’m going to table this for the meantime and go back to the drawing board Thanks Guys and good luck this weekend!
