1988 Merc 5hp spark problems

I have a 1988 merc 5hp that I bought off ebay a year ago for $250 with shipping. It didn’t have hood and that’s why I got it so cheap. I got it in the winter of 2003. I also injured my back at the same time and couldn’t pull it to try to start it back then. I just tried it a couple weeks ago. It started first pull ….and then quit . I tried to start it again and it wouldn’t start. I checked the spark at the plug and no spark. I called Twin City Outboard (used outboard parts place in Shakopee, MN)and they said it is probably the ECM (ECU). I went there to have them match it and they said they don’t have a used one but could get a new one for $150!! Does anyone know where I can get a used one or might have a better idea of what’s wrong? Any help would be appreciated.

Wade, Thanx for the info. I emailed a bunch of these sites so we’ll see what I get back. Do you think this guy is correct as far as my motor needing a switch block (ECM)?

I really don’t know. Do we have any mechanics on here???
