Any reports on these rods. I ordered one today. They seem a little more expensive than the St Croix Premier. Are they worth the extra 50 bucks?

    YES!!! Much better than premier.

I would rate them higher than the St. Croix Avids (Yes, time to duck and cover from the St. Croix fans………..)

I bought a 6′ for vertical jigging. I compared it to the Avid at the same time, and found the GL2 to be more sensitive and lighter. It is my favorite rod, by far.

My next rod will probably be the GL2, 7′ ML for rigging

    You won’t be disappointed!

I bought the 7′ ML. Champagne colored. Thanks for the info. I was going to buy another Avid but thought I would try something different.

They’re not a bad rod at all but I found them to be……”lacking” power down the blank, in the fashion I prefer, that is. I had Berkley’s, Shimanos, and Mitchells that balanced better in the hand and felt lighter too. That feel I’m talking about is a more moderate tip action vs. the fast or extra fast actions I prefer. In all honesty, I haven’t found a GL2 yet that had me convinced it was “the” rod. However, this is strictly of my own preferences. I’ve not known them to be undependable or less able to haul in a fish. They’re great rods…….. I just don’t prefer them. I’m too spoiled with Elite’s, IMX’s, GL3’s, and Techna AV’s. Speaking of Fenwick, I used a 6-15lb. medium 6′ Venture Series spinning rod over the weekend and for a $50.00 rod, I got VERY attached to it and quickly too……….without even thinking about what I was using!

Let me know how that GL2 fits your preferences SteveO. I know you’ve got premiers, avids, and an elite so I’m interested in your observations!

I like the handles much better on the St.Croix rods. Ive heard Loomis has a tight warranty since they got bought out by Shimano.

I hope to have it before my annual Flambeau voyage. It should get a good work out on smallies.
    I’ll let you know.

I’ve also heard rumor that Shimano is using the GL blanks for the upper Shimano lines now so you’re getting roughly the same quality rod but at half to one-third of the GL price. Any validity to this Derek?
