iPilot 12V 55lb

I’m looking for some feedback from anybody that runs one of these to see what kind of power these have and how long one can expect to operate one before noticing a loss of power. Could you also add what type of boat you have it on?

If I were to ever get one, it’d go on a 14′ jon boat, so the 24V isn’t really an option.

With a good battery, could I expect to be able to work upstream (dragging) for most of a day?

Or how about slipping a shoreline with the occasional use of spot lock to hold on a spot for awhile?

Or maybe holding above a wingdam?

Would 8-10 hours of use be asking too much?

    Thanks for any insight!

I have a PD 55 V2 with an add on I-pilot and it works very well on my 16′ Lund, tho I have it set up with 2 group 29’s interstates,I can go 2 days(6-8 hrs a day) without having to charge.I have never drained it further than 30 percent left yet.

    I fish pool 4.

I run a 55lb on my 16ft alweld . I mainly slip fish and have always been able to get two days+ on one battery. Fishing my way upriver is not a option with a 55lb for me on most of the rivers i fish. On some of the smaller rivers with low flows i fish i am able to work up river. Even when I’m able to work upriver i still have been able to get a full day on the water.

Going with a larger battery will definately help. I have had really good luck with the 31 series deep cycle batteries from O’Reilly Auto Parts. If you can make room for two batteries you would be much better off. You would want to run them in paralell to get longer life.

Hey guys, when running batteries parallel on a 12 volt system, do you connect negative to one another and positive to one another? The trolling motor is then connected to one battery?
If I undertstand correctly this would create one “large”12 volt battery.

I currently run a 55# powerdrive on a 16.5 ft lund, I use 2 batteries but have marine quick connect system set up so I just switch batteries when one is growing weak. Would i get longer life amd improved performance if i run these parrallel?

I would love a 80# terova with i-pilot but just isn’t going to be in the budget this season.
I really wanted to add I-pilot to my current motor so I could upgrade to a 70# powerdrive in the future until I realized you can’t use the foot pedal with i-pilot pd.
Thanks for any help and feedback.

parallel on a 12 volt system= negative to negative and positive to positive, it will increase amperage output and not voltage.

    Negative to positive = increase voltage 2 12’s will then be 24 volt,3 12’s would 36 volt.

For a better understanding >>>>> 12 volt parrallel

Trumar, does your 55# enable you to use the spot lock during low-moderate flow situations effectively?
How about the lack of foot pedal? Is it much of a problem?

A simple I-Pilot add on to my current system with option of upgrade later is much more realistic.
I use my bowmount most this time of year dragging on the river.
    Thanks for any feedback.

I had a 55 on my 16 foot Blu Fin with 6 foot beam.
It pulled it all around pool 4 in current and all.

I have a 55 terrova on my 1675 impact (90 beam ) with two batteries. I use spot lock on Pool 4 at the dam all the time.
It will drag that boat around anywhere and spot lock all day long.
I used it on Kab for a whole week last year being just a little judicious about its use. Not much spot lock but did troll a lot for me.
It has the foot pedal as I thought I needed both as I never had a remote before.
Now I never use the foot pedal anymore.

It works good for my boat in low flow conditions.

I believe with any boat and trolling motor with Ipilot the more the flow the better it holds you with-in that 5’radius.

The higher flow makes the gps/Ipiolot work more on holding you in position better, atleast that is my observation of the Ipilot spot lock.

I dont miss not having the foot pedal at all, carry an extra remote battery too.

I would probably part with mine if you haven’t found one yet? It is from a 101 if that makes a difference. Let me know and I will find it.

Is it a powerdrive v2 head? I didn’t think they made a PD in 101lb.
