Hi guys , I was wondering if anyone could give some ideas on where to check out a dealer that has tunnel hull fishing boats. Would even consider a used one in good shape.

    Thanks for any help.

My neighbor has a tunell John boat that is really nice for shallow water rivers. He uses it for duck hunting primarily. We fished above lake wis last summer and I was impressed in how shallow it drafted. It is a G3 boat and he’s got a regular outboard short shaft on it. If I were to go that way I’d put a jet drive outboard on it though. You could probably run it in 6″ of water with a jet. It fishes stable with 2 guys its a 18 footer. I think he bought it on boat trader for about 10 grand last August. I’d like one if I had extra funds for another rig. You could really guide some neat spots with one Jeff.

Alumacraft makes a range of sizes.

The Jet Drives are nice but you lose HP and they really dont like weeds

    Don’t forget about no reverse.

Thanks everyone for the info, a lot of dealers do not have these in stock to look at now.

Ob jets do have reverse but you won’t be back trolling without your bm down or drift sock off the front. I am able to power mine off the beach or trailer if i choose to.Inboard sportjets don’t have much for reverse but there are aftermarket reverse buckets that greatly increase it.

Looking at the 2013 alumacrafts and lowe they both look to only carry one tunnel each for a obj. If you want a prop tunnel sea ark and alweld build basic models and or you can have them build a hull with as much or little frills as you want. There are alot of other builders out there that will build a better hull then the mass produced ones. I would be surprised if you find a dealer with one in stock in the upper Midwest.

I run a 25hp Merc jet on a 1648 mod-v Alumacraft rivited. does,t like weeds especially at low speed. my nephew cringes when we fly over areas at 20mph that would have destroyed any prop driven boat. he has run the river much more than I previous to me getting the jet with his prop driven 15hp jon…you should see the battle scars on that lower unit.

Is that with the 40 horse power head to come out to 25 hp at the jet?
That is pushing it pretty well.

No, the 25 HP jet is on a 30 HP power head. The riveted Jon is only 250lbs and the motor is around 240lbs for a total of 500 lbs. When fitting a jet keep the boat as light as possible. I believe the 40 HP jet is on either a 50 or 60 power head.

Look at a surface drive motor like a ProDrive or similar motor like a beaver tail. The ProDrives have a full power reverse and will go anywhere a jet drive will go… The only thing that stops them is sand, but if it’s that shallow and sandy the jet won’t go there either, just get out and push.. nothing likes sand. I’ve had my ProDrive for almost 6 years, have jumped trees, beaver dams, and narrow land masses, clobbered rocks that would’ve taken the lower unit off of a normal outboard and just keeps on ticking like a timex. It’s air cooled so no worry about sucking up weeds and overheating either.

Jeff, I get up to the Dells a few times a year and you could check mine out if our schedules work out. I’ve seen your truck at Rivers edge before but haven’t had the opportunity to meet ya yet. Maybe stop in Rivers edge for a or ?
