Pflueger Supreme VS president

Anyone who’s got these or knows, whats the differences between the President and Supreme reels as they would affect performance? I see Cabelas has the president models on sale and 3X the points on you Club card (second part goes for the Supreme too), so can pick the president up for just over half price of normal, but just don’t know enough about the two to know if there are any ‘dealbreaker’ differences that I’m better off spending more on the Supreme, or something else entirely.

FYI – primary reel I’m looking to replace will be for pitching jigs, if I replace a second one it will be my ‘rapala’ pole.

I have fished and owned both. The president is about all any non tournament “regular” guy would ever need. They will work fine and are a very nice reel. The supreme just takes it to the next level. Lighter, smoother, little better drag.

For me, I don’t see the need to spend the money for the supreme UNLESS I was going to replace my rap reel. For something like that where you are casting/retrieving all day I want the smoothest reel possible (within the budget). But for jigging and casting jigs the president is plenty. Save the extra cash and pick up a supreme for your rapala rod.

If I was a tournament guy, or fished more seriously than I do now I might consider going all supremes, but I only fish 3-5 days a week. I use okumas and presidents and have had nothing but good luck with all of them.

PFlueger came out with another reel you might like. It is called the Purist. They are supper smooth and cost about half of what the supreme cost.

Thanks for the advice. Think I might sneak into Gander after work one night on the off hope they might actully have the reels there (that might be asking too much though) so I can play with em, then I’ll order fom Cabeas anyway

Go to ACE on the south side Gander doesn’t have anything. I think ACE has all three reels so you can compare them side by side.

I have both reels. I decided to splurge and go with the Supreme last year. I have it on a Cumara and the combo is feather light. My president is time tested and have had no issues with it. I’ll probably be buying another president this year for one of my backup jigging rods.

You get what you pay for…If the President works for you buy it…There is a reason the Supreme has held its spot ahead of the President for many years and is 40$ more…
    As BBK said
the Supreme has 10 stainless steel ball bearings and Anti-twist titanium line roller vs 9 BB and a fixed point bail connection…and is ULTRA light weight…matches the legend Extremes very well for a balanced outfit.

I have 4 Supremes and love them ,but I also have 6 of the Arbors and love them too, I opted for the Arbors for my pitching rods(custom made LEX style)because of the larger diameter spool, you can pitch lighter jigs further and are also priced less than the Supremes.

What are you guys go to sizes? I have a 30 series president on a medium powered fenwick that I like but have considered going down to a 25 to try to cut some weight.
