What is your favorite model, action, length for pitching jigs for walleye? I usually use jigs ranging from 1/16-1/4 oz. jigs. I was just with a guide who uses an 8 1/2 foot Avid and I tried it. It was very nice, but very long. Can you keep the sensitivity without going sooooo long? If you have any experience or info, I am all ears.

I have a 6’3″ st. croix legend elite, medium action, extra fast tip, that I got custom made with a tennesse handle. It’s an awesome jigging rod!

That’s my favorite rod for the job but about that line… Sensation buddy, sensation! The iron silk hasn’t performed very well for me at all.

See ya’ next week. The bite on Pool 4 has been quite good this past week and will likely get better. You’re timing looks to be right on!

I’m with you susper. Only I’ve got the Avid model, stock model.

    Mustbe,

do a search for jigging rods, you’ll get enough reading to last you into the fall jig bite.

I like the 6 ft. and 6 ft. 6” St. Croix Avids med. fast. I also have a couple 6 ft med. lights that are nice too that are also St. Croixs. Great rods!
    Thanks, Bill

Last Father’s Day, I was lucky to receive a GLoomis 7-footer. I believe it is the SR842-2 (1/16 – 5/16 Fast Action, light power. I still use 6 pound test Trilene. I just love it!

like you need another reason to go back to gander!! i have a berkley graphite, medium, 6.6, with an eagle open face reel, i use if for both jigging and casting. I also have a new rod, i don’t remember the name, but it is a light action 7 ft combo setup from walmart. the best pole i have had in the boat yet!!!!!

I use a Berkley Gary Roach Lightning Rod, 6.6′. They cost around $50. Hard to beat for the price. Berkley Rods…

It was a 6’8″ Avid XFast…but you need to try the Avid 6’9″ XtraFast ML. It was designed for dropshotting but it is an awesome tool for pitching or dragging jigs or rigs. It is a tad lighter and more sensitive than the 6’8″. I use 6# Sensation in cold or shallow water but I love Vivid Hi-Vis flourocarbon for deeper water when temps are 50 degrees or better.

    Guys,
Thanks for all of the advice. With Father’s Day coming up, and it being my first one, maybe I can squeeze one out of my wife.
