My wife turns 50 this year and wants a week at a fishing resort instead of a party. Yes, I know I’m lucky, but that’s not the point here….
I’m frantically searching for a resort to rent up to 10 cabins for mid July 2013.
Must have – clean water, sand beach, fishing, kid-friendly environment, swimming or pool, turtle races, and be within 2 hours of metro Mpls.
Please point me in the right direction.
    Thanks.

Maybe check out the Alexandria area. Even the Brainerd area is more than two hours form the cities I believe. If you are willing to go that far though, you could check out Breezy Point Resort on Pelican Lake. They have condos versus cabins. A number of beaches, decent fishing that time of year, indoor and outdoor pools.

    Just a thought. Good Luck!

Whatever you do, book it fast. You are looking for allot of cabins in the prime tourist season within 2 hours of a major metropolis. You might have to settle but if I were you I’d settle fast…

Sandy Pines Resort in Backus. Farther than you’re looking for, but a nice setting. Agree with the post above, gonna be hard finding that many cabins on the same days. May be forced to broaden your search radius. Wife’s family rents all the cabins the first week in August, for the whole week. Been staying here the last three years. Very family friendly, with lots of lakes to pick from. Before this, it was a resort on Smith Lake near Osakis, MN. For the life of me I can’t think of the name.

Use to go there when it was White Pine resort decade ago, very nice resort. Awesome foe the kids. Centrally located to hit all the small towns in that area, and good fishing when we fished it. 1# sunnies plus were common, they had the big hump heads. Portageing to deep portage is pretty cool wonder of you can still do that with lake levels, all in all I x2 on that referal.

You can still portage to Deep through the channel. A 17′ aluminum is about the biggest you’ll get to squeeze through.
